Launcher "windowed" after update to 1.16.0 and incorrectly rendered

After the update to launcher version 1.16.0 which includes an electron update, my launcher window is suddenly windowed with a frame which it didn’t had before. This is blocking the top row of options.

If someone knows a solution or can report that this is not happening with a certain software layer/version, then please let me know. I’m currently on wine 11.10 and can’t update as i am currently bound to debian bookworm and that’s the last released version.

Not seeing that on mine.

Does your WM have an option to remove title bars for a window? In KDE you can do this by right-clicking the title bar and selecting No Titlebar and Frame. If that works, you can set a persistent rule for the EVE launcher window to always hide the titlebar.

Not sure what you mean with title bars and if i could remove them. Right-click doesn’t reveal this. I have to research it. The desktop is MATE and the WM seems to be Metacity/Marco.

This is a behavior specific to the new launcher 1.16.0. If i revert to 1.15.5 everything is fine again.

I can get a somewhat normal looking launcher window if i disable both wm decoration and wm control in winecfg - but then i also lose this on the client windows which is not acceptable.

While the EVE launcher is visible, try running xprop -f _MOTIF_WM_HINTS 32c -set _MOTIF_WM_HINTS “0x2, 0x0, 0x2, 0x0, 0x0” in a terminal and clicking the EVE launcher window.

Lol yeah, thank you…just found that as well…this however only removes decoration. If i just remove decoration (which i can also do via winecfg), then the window content is still not sized right. It just sits wrongly in the box after that electron update.

Only if i also disable both wm decoration and wm control in winecfg then the launcher looks somewhat normal but not completely. It has a white line left, right and bottom.

However i can use it as an interims fix and right after launcher start reenable both settings via winecfg and the clients then look normal.

I will either use that or just keep the launcher reverted and hope it is fixed with newer wine versions or again a future launcher revision once i upgrade to trixie.

Confirm issue. Mate on mint.

So i upgraded to debian trixie and wine 11.15 and the issue still persists.

I’m seeing misbehaviour with the newest launcher too. Observe:

Very specifically, the whole window is rendering down several pixels, but the buttons are all in the correct position. As such, I have to click at the top of the launch button, for instance, because the button behaviour is where it should be, even if the button is displayed offset lower.

This is most visible at the top, where the menus and window controls fail to render.

This is with Steam / Proton.

this seams to have regressed more in 1.16.1
the laucher is unchanged but now the game clinet never loads resoucs presentign a black screen with a inty loading spinner in the bottm left that you cannot exit normally. the clent does allow you to bring up the menu with escape but you cannot quit the game and it need to be force closed form steam

encountered this today after the 1.16.1 update on bazite and kde

not i have had the launcher issues for a few days as well but that only accected the launcher not the game client

Not seeing that with wine 11.15 outside of steam. Only the launcher issue. Maybe you have hit a bad time window for login…they have server and service issues since yesterday and also have them today as it seems.

unfortunately it has persited for 2 days now so it does not seam to be a login related issue

via the menue i can swap from fullscreen to widnowed and i can hear the click sound when islect option ectra so the colient iteslf is not entirly hung but it never get to the chater select screen.

bazit will not update software in the backgound so the only thing that shoudl have changed is the clinet or the steam runtime but forcign proton versions seam to have no effect. i may try doing some other system update to see if that helps btu the issue only seam to be affecting eve
other games such as factorio ectra are working fine so it seams to be related to the 1.16.x client verions of the recent game updates in the last 3 days.

hum interesing if i install eve again sepreatly with lutris it defaults to launcher version 1.9.4 and that does not have the grapical issue and the actual game clinet works fine under dx11 mode as well so on the same system with 1.9.4 it works in a seperate wine prefix and fails in steam so that not a driver of system level issues its specific to how the 1.16.x launcher works under steam.

hum interesting.

so under lutirs/wine with its default ge-prothon (latest) which is ge-prothon 11-5 the launcher redndering issue is not present and i was able to launch the game client on 1.16.1

i was able to get back to the same launch issue as reported in this thread under steam and was able to lauch the game fully by unistalling under staem and reinstalling eve

so it seam like clearing all cached fiiles and verifying the files was not enoght ot resolve the issue i was hitting but a full resintall makes the game playbale again albeit with the launchr offset issues

under lutris im not seeing that issue althogh that has the other peoblem that may main is aviabel but my chater on my steam account are not aviabel on that client.

so if other hit the black screen issue i guess a full clean reinsall my be a viable workaround.
if your not using steam and using lutris is an option that seperate wine install with ge-prothon 11-5 does not seam to be impacted by the “windowed” issue

Fiddled with this today. A little progress I guess. Mint used.
I generally run the launcher WITHOUT gpu rendering. It is counterintuitively faster and more stable in general. I swapped it ON…the offsent button presses only happend in this mode. VERY difficult to press top buttons. Swapped back to launcher software rendering and improved.

concerning title bar, Swapping to GE proton 11-5 did fix the title bar rendering. It no longer uses default system title bar and renders the in built launcher title bar fine. Unfortunately now there is a moderately offensive looking white border around the sides and bottom. Maybe 8 pixels wide.

I also use software rendering for the launcher, because with it enabled it shows the splash screen wrong that appears before the launcher.

Currently i use wine staging 11.16 which didn’t fix the launcher rendering yet…so somehow proton managed to implement their own fix i guess…hope it gets ported to wine at some point.
