Launcher won't start in Steam after update

Xubuntu latest (AMD CPU, AMD GPU),
Ubuntu LTS (Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU)
on both PCs.
Tried Proton versions 7, 8, 9, Experimental.

UPD:
deleting
/mnt/WD1TB/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Eve Online/app-1.10.0/
helped

Same issue here, on openSuse. Tried on Steam and Heroic and same issue.

Also same via Lutris. Running an older installer on the prefix works to get in. Trying to run that older version directly from appdata “works” but nukes my logins.

The log file for the new launcher version stops directly after these lines:

2025-05-08 13:48:52.576 app info: [migrations] Running file-system migrations from 202408021525 to 202408021525
2025-05-08 13:48:52.580 app info: [scheduler] Starting scheduler background
2025-05-08 13:48:52.587 app error: (node:216) MaxListenersExceededWarning: Possible EventEmitter memory leak detected. 11 scheduler/triggered listeners added to [IpcMainImpl]. MaxListeners is 10. Use emitter.setMaxListeners() to increase limit []

For older versions, those same lines occur but the launcher actually works.

Same here - no dice under Linux today :frowning:

The same. The launcher does not start after the update. ALT Workstation K11 (Nemorosa)

Same but I was able to get in using the old version which is stored at $WINEPREFIX/drive_c/users/your_user/AppData/Local/eve-online/app-1.9.4/eve-online.exe

Same here. Thaks for nuking my game… again…

how did you start old version?

Just delete the folder app-1.10.0 and it’ll automatically use the older one (1.9.4).

If you’re a doofus like me and manage to nuke your entire EVE install (thanks Steam!), you can download the old launcher from https://launcher.ccpgames.com/eve-online/release/win32/x64/eve-online-1.9.4-full.nupkg

Confirmed, worked for me

rm -rf ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Eve\ Online/app-1.10.0

Not sure how long it’ll last though. We’ll we now need to delete app-1.10.0 each time CCP updates launcher in steam? Until problem fixes itself (if it’s gonna)

Edits: typos

Maybe but it will download new version as soon as i start it and it will be updated after next restart. Probably we should wait for CCP fix. Oh they are too busy with their new games!

It’s probably better to not delete game from steam and reinstall. According to steamdb this patch deleted app-1.9.4 completely. So if you just download the game you probably won’t even have it. You’re lucky if you have older version locally

i have
/mnt/WD1TB/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Eve Online/app-1.9.4/

will try to delete
/mnt/WD1TB/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Eve Online/app-1.10.0/

and run

upd: well it works so far but i have to re-add all my accounts now.

Oof, I deleted all my eve stuff and reinstalled. guess I dont get to play.

Same problem on wine-staging 10.7. Launcher is not starting after update to 1.10.0

There are some ways to download older version of the game via steam. I’ve never tried that myself, but if have nothing better to do (like you wanted to spend this day in eve anyway) you can try this guide with previous Manifest ID from here

Thank you Stana Katik. So I did unfortunately uninstall and try reinstalling. Which deleted the old version. After finding this I started steam with the -console switch to get access to console.
From there I ran this command.
download_depot 8500 8501 3847310921196821515
Then took the 1.9.4 launcher file just dragged it over and was good(ish) to go.
So can confirm it works… well the workaround not the launcher.

Dang. I tried all of the above fixes and still, nothing. Oh well. Guess I’m out of the game for a while
