EVE launcher not working on Steam, after today's (July 2nd, 2025) launcher update

I tried closing Steam and reloading it, starts and I can see the EVE launcher icon on the ‘systray’ but then it closes inmediately and Im back staring at the PLAY button on Steam. Only change is today’s launcher update.

Just for reference, I was playing before with Proton 9.04, I did tell Steam to try Experimental, and it didnt work, and I downgraded also to 8.05 and also, did not work. Also tried Proton 10 beta.. .it didnt work.

Decided to try installing EVE thru Wine, but I only was able to see the EVE logo and it stopped after awhile.

Seams to be the norm after each launcher update.
However this update has apparently had a change, I use bottles and system wine
and eve is working even after update, for reference this version is what i am using:

[kristine@Pinky ~]$ wine --version
wine-10.10.r0.gc37f9f50 ( TkG Staging Esync Fsync )
[kristine@Pinky ~]$

I have Staging 10.6

This again?

There was a thread a couple of months ago when this happened and someone mentioned deleting a specific folder, now, it worked, but it nuked my layout settings.

wine 10.11 is latest. I currently use development version on debian with nvidia. Staging 10.11 will probably work also. No issues with current launcher.

Is there a way to see if theres a wine version limit to any distro? Like, Im running Ubuntu 20.04.6 and I have Wine Staging 10.6, does running an older OS limit your ability to grab recent wine updates? How long was Staging 10.11 released?

I need to stop installing these mid-day (mid-day for me) updates.

In general no, but you may need to self compile it.
Manual maintainance is never really fun, and quite messy.

is there a way to roll back the update?

I renamed the app-1.11.0 to something else before restarting the launcher.
app-1.9.4 still works

Yes. It was

This

Where do I find those files?

Edit: I found it, steamaps/common/EVE Online

did the rename to bad- and launcher is up and working. I imagine that I will need to continue renaming this folder everytime I want to play… untill I dont know, seems maybe I need to upgrade OS so that I get a newer wine version? I thought steam/proton didnt completely rely on that…

The re-naming fix will work until they release a new launcher. Launcher has not tried to download the new one after I made the change.to its name.

since the last launcher broblem with 1.10.0
(the fix to it known in the forum)
i managed to get 1.10.1 running on steam and lutris
steam updated from 1.10.1 to 1.11.0 with no issue
updete on lutris is not pushed as far as i can tell

if you want to create a new eve instalation using version 1.8.0 works fine for me on lutris.

this are just my 2 cents n the issue.
