Again, if CCP is going to spend a lot of time tracking the behaviour of individual players to see which accounts belong to which player, I would prefer if CCP spends that time tracking cheaters Like botters, input broadcasters and RMT.
Not waste that time to see if some player has made a second Alpha account on a different email address.
There still are plenty of bots and other cheaters in the game, so I don’t think CCP should waste time on something as silly as this thread.
Well, why can’t they do both? If CCP is creating some sort of automated system to categorise accounts by behaviour, then this could be just one more thing to track and support the need of such system.
This isn’t illegal. They simply cannot be logged in simultaneously. This is allowed and approved- skill up as an Alpha up to the limit. Nothing wrong with that according to CCP.
please Gerard, don’t follow that stupid myth. Hardware fingerprinting exist on a level that you can identify a machine with a 100% certainty as long as you are able to have your own software installed on it. Which the EVE client is. So absolutey no matter how many different mail adresses, vpn-tunnels, mobile-phone-routings or virtual machines someone is trying to use, the EVE server can always tell if the request comes from the same computer. So unless someone wants to use a different PC for each Alpha, such a rule would be easily enforcable.
Unlimited mass-Alphas are a problem. Even if most people can’t understand why. They are abused heavily. For Capital Chars, for Seeds, for EVAC/Logoff chars, RollingChars, Reinforcment Chars or for HomeDefense. All totally free. And large groups abuse them by the thousands.
I totally agree that they should be restricted in number much more. Technically that is absolutely possible. And gameplay wise it is absolutely needed. It would not hurt a “true newbo” the slightest, but it would prevent Veterans from creating basically unlimited alpha chars with barely any cost attached.
Tell this to the father and child who had their accounts banned for playing from the same house… CCP had to go un-ban them after they proved it was 2 people.
Is this a hypothetical or some specific real event that has happened?
The system I’m suggesting (from this other game) would actually help with this. It would help to differentiate real players from bots and similar, so less people would get banned for “multiboxing alphas”, when they’re actually real individual players. People wouldn’t need to contact FC to prove anything anymore.
Realistic means hypothetical, right? I was just curious what @mecrotic was referring to.
Well, if we get such system, then you’ll have nothing to worry about. Your accounts will be judged by the algorithm (or AI) and flagged as “mains”, so no bans. You’ll be able to have two alphas runing concurrently, which currently is against the ToS.
2021 Alpha Account Ban: A player reported on Reddit that their accounts and their son’s accounts were banned by GM Aisling for allegedly “using alphas simultaneously,” which violated the EULA regarding Alpha accounts. The player claimed it was simply family bonding time, with the father playing Omega and the son playing Alpha on separate PCs.
System is used to flag/sort users. System doesn’t ban anyone, each case gets reviewed by staff. And such systems are tuned for very high confidence to avoid false flags. Nobody said or claimed that such system would be or must be 100% accurate to be very useful.
Makes sense. CCP auto-bans everyone playing from the same household. But if we had a system to identify real players and alts/bots, then that could change.
But it seems that most people here are opposed to this idea. F’ fathers playing EVE with their children, am I right?
I tried to explain that. It won’t be a problem if an omega Player had another Alpha account to try out things here and there. Or dip into another activity, meeting other people etc without using his main character or related other chars for that.
It becomes a massive problem if players have 30 Alpha accounts to passively sit in strategic locations to give them instant access to presence there. Plus the option to have logged out Omega tools on Alpha chars for free that they keep basically maintenance-free and totally invincible. Which they still can log in anytime and either hand them over to omega characters that just have to sneak in with a shuttle or by just giving the Char omega status ‘on demand’ with a cheap ‘Fleet Weekend Pack’ or some PLEX.
And all that is already done on a massive scale by big alliances. This is not what Alphas were designed forr and the company would be well advised to adress that issue.
A simple solution to that is to force Alpha characters out of Omega ships once the sub runs out. Put the ship immediately into Asset Safety. If the sub gets put back into Omega, they can go pick up the ship and pay to get it out of impound.
But they won’t make that change. Large Scale Alliances will cry and CCP hates it when they do that.
I’d still love to see Alpha clones removed from the game.
There’s no elegant solution, but that doesn’t change the fact that alphas are an issue. EVE is unique, and I love it, but I don’t think anyone can argue that making a hundred trial accounts to hide warships in various wormholes in case you need them in the future is a strategy we should be endorsing.
Is it clever? Absolutely. Is it unique to EVE? No doubt. Is it good that this is a thing? Very much not.
The “elegant” solution is the one ccp already came up with. One per physical person online at a time. And if you feel someone is abusing this; then feel free to report…
