make me laugh harder daddy…lol

Is this really an indication of abuse of alpha accounts by veterans?

Or are these automaticly created accounts a sign of different problems, for example part of botting programs?

Since they’re breaking the EULA and are using automation my guess would be the latter, which means the data you shared isn’t really relevant to this topic. Is there an indication that the data about automated accouts is related to veteran alpha abuse?

Well, i for once would be glad if Alphas would have strict limitations where they can stay logged out for prolonged amounts of time.

It really is abuse if you simply create tons of Alphas to log them out in dozens of wormholes to be able to get an entry anytime you want. Yes, they get moved back to HS at some point, but that timespan is way too long.

Same for leaving masses of Tornado- or Battleship-Alts in your home stations while deploying towards some front, and in case someone wants to poke your home because he knows you are somewhere else with the main fleet, you just log in a 100 alphas for defense (as a group of course, and yes, such “Alpha Defense Programs” do exist).

Same for skilling Dread- ,Carrier- or Freighter Alts with minimal Omega time and then letting the Omega expire, keeping them as backup for emergency forever logged out without requiring any payment.

Imho

  • every Alpha logged out in space should be teleported back to his starting school station after 14 days. If he is in a ship that could otherwise not leave that system or enter HighSec (XL-ship in a lowclass WH, Capital Ship), only he pod is moved, the ship is impounded and can only be retrieved in a structure in that system where it logged out.
  • every Alpha logged out in a station or structure should be teleported back to his starting school station after 60 days (only pod, ship stays at the location he logged out).

I agree that it would be good for the game if such strategies (wormhole seeding, alpha backup fleets) are made harder.

The things you mention could work, teleporting a logged off Alpha character out of WH space without their ship after 14 days would make wormhole seeding far more tedious without possibilities for abuse.

The only three things I can think of are:

  • does this not impact legitimate Alphas too? 14 days seems long enough for that.
  • how do they reobtain their ship? There is no asset safety or structure to send the ship to in WH space and neither is the alternative of a guaranteed teleport of ships out of WH space a good idea, so how does this get solved? Ship gone?
  • people could still seed wormholes if they log all in once every 14 days. But I guess it’s better than nothing.

This rule seems OK and helpful.

The other seems less effective:

While this seems good to stop alpha armies (I’ve got alts like that too), it does very little in practice if Alphas are allowed to set a jump clone or medical clone.

I would just set a jumpclone where my Alpha is needed, and months later jump to that station and undock in the prepared ship to fight. Also 2 months is a lot of time.

For this rule to work well to make alpha armies less practical, I would do two things:

  1. Remove Alpha jump clones
  2. Shorten the duration before being teleported to a month, or two weeks too
  3. Limit alpha medical clone locations

This should make Alpha army alts far less usable, as I cannot simply teleport or self-destruct myself to my destination.

Wormhole seeding doesn’t have this issue, but K-space stations and structures do.

A downside however is that this also will impact legitimate Alpha players who now have to play regularly enough to not see their character teleported away from their home with no jump clone to get back.

And worse, a legitimate Alpha clone player could no longer be able to join fleets in null or anywhere outside HS if they have to fly back all the way from their school whenever they get podded, instead of grabbing a new ship at their base.

In other words, such anti-alpha-army restrictions make it impossible for legitimate Aloha players from picking their own base.

It’s hard to come up with functional yet fair Alpha restrictions.

At least the wormhole teleport could be done with little issue besides ‘where goes the ship’.

You cannot clonejump into wormholes. You cannot even clonejump out of wormholes, you can only self-destruct your clone (losing all implants) and wake up in your home-station. You cannot set a structure in a WH as your home-station, so the only way to get back in is to travel back after someone provided you an entrance.

Regarding “legit Alphas” - no legit Alpha can really survive on it’s own in a wormhole for a prolonged time. At least not reasonable and to be honest the game shouldn’t let useful changes slip because maybe 2 or 3 absolute hardcore cracknerds out of a million capsuleers really try to live out of a Mobile Depot and a Frig for more than 14 days… Alphas can daytrip, sure, but without a corp to support them they can’t live there anyway. So if they get teleported out, their corp can give them an entry and they come back in a shuttle.

Yea, that’s my point.

Getting back into wormholes to keep them seeded isn’t practical when the Alphas are teleported out after a while, as jump cloning or medical cloning into a wormhole isn’t possible.

This is not true for non-wormhole Alpha use. Your suggestion to teleport the Alphas in stations outside wormhole space back to their school station after a while is easily negated with jump clones and medical clones.

ah, okay, then I misunderstood your point. Well, Alphas can have only one additional clone imho (Infomorph can only be trained to Level I if I am not mistaken). But the issue can also be easily fixed if an Alpha that was inactive for 60days and is forcefully moved back to his HS school station, any additional clones and the “home” station setting is also relocated to the school station. Or only the Home Station is reset but the jumpclone goes “inactive” and the char need to travel back at least one time to re-activate the clone and his home-station setting.

Yea, that could work as well.

Still not to much of a challenge for people to log in their alpha alt once every two months to keep them ready for force projection, but better than nothing.

Well, if you ask me: Restrict Alphas to just HS and LS, but grant them no access to any “lawless” space. Eliminates 99% of all problems with “mass alpha toon abuse” and they can still test the game, dip into almost any content and sooner or later decide if they want to go omega or not. :man_shrugging:

Interesting idea.

The only downside is that this heavily restrict the things free players can try in the game, and I also don’t see a good in-game explanation to tell a capsuleer they “are not allowed to enter a wormhole” yet.

Plus that would slightly hurt our standings business as we use alphas to sell pirate arcs

as much as I like your business idea, it shouldn’t be a consideration when removing a massive account-abuse potential.

Sure, there won’t be an ingame-lore explanation, but is there one for the forceful teleport back to HS that we have right now? Some things simply need to be restricted on account-basis and the block is a simple “error message”, like if you try to board a T2 ship that requires omega: “Sry, not for alphas!”.

But of course I am open for more elegant solutions.

oh i get it, i’d hate to see it end if it did, but i prefer less account abuse and less automations and less botting etc.

Lore wise there is leass nothing of People in new eden wich will be ever be an Capsuleer.
