Has anyone found a good system of managing stock levels of mining crystals within their mining barge? I need to go out with Simple, Coherent, Complex and Variegated so that I have what I need for possible anomalies. And I like to have a supply of both type A and type B just incase.
I cannot find an efficient way of restocking or checking what is running low before I undock. It’s difficult to see at a glance because anything ever loaded into the strip miner now won’t stack, never mind the damaged ones too. I like to keep the mining barge in a state that I can grab it and go.
I tried “grab bags” of pre-prepared medium containers but that’s a pain because the strip miners won’t use those when reloading.
Has anyone found an efficient method of dealing with this?
I like using ORE strip miners so don’t use crystals too often, but when I do use T2 with crystals I generally either use type A or type B for one type of ore, not both.
I’d be more careful with Mercoxit and use type A for those, while if I’m mining Complex asteroids I’m using type B. For moon ore I bring spare type B’s in case it is not a R64 moon, because on R64 I’m using OREs.
By deciding your strategy based on the value of ore beforehand you don’t need to bring both type Bs and type As for all types, but only one set.
That should help a bit, I guess!
I also have a different mining strategy on my asteroids than on moons, so my moon mining Mackinaw refits have moon crystals while the Hulk I use on asteroids has asteroid crystals. That also saves me a bunch of inventory management.
And of whatever crystals I use I have a stack of spares in case some of them break during the session.
I don’t really get the problem… empty all your Barges cargo into a “mining container” where you store all your reserve crystals and restock whatever you want to take with you, used ones first. I am really scratching my head to see where the difficulty lies…
There is always someone isn’t there with the passive aggressive Just don’t reply if you don’t think there is a problem! But when you have 4 asteroid types with A and B, moon rocks, and combined that with stacking and non stacking variants - it is very easy to undock without something. If you don’t find that it causes you a problem I’m really happy for you *hug*.
Yeah I think you have a good idea with deciding on the strategy beforehand. That will definitely help a bit. It’s kind of calling out for a QoL improvement though, but for now it looks like I’m not unaware of some super efficient management method.
stack all to minimize the amount of stacks in that container
pick 2-3 crystals per type you want to use from a container and move them to the barge. begin with the used ones
For most people that will be absolutely sufficient. It takes me less than 10 seconds to completel refill my mining ships with more than I need for the day.
If the sheer amount of items is confusing or overwhelming for you (no offense), cluster the activity by using filters. You can either begin with “Type A” → it will half the shown items, only displaying A-Type cystals. Then pick from them what you need. After that filter for B-Types and repeat.
Or you use “coh” and it will show you only coherent crystals. Repeat that with “com”, “sim” and “var”, they will show you only the ones you look for. Besides that, the difference between A and B types is clearly visible in the icon, on first glance, displayed by the lenght of the crystal.
