The monthly economic report as its named helps showcase where money is being spent, or not, where stuff is being mined, or not and what areas are profitable from month to month. Events, patches, expansion sometimes makes a dent in how the MER reflects. Plus you can even go back years and see how 2024 november looked compared to 2023. No difference in how businesses run their numbers.
Lots of players analyze every part of the MER and breakdown its numbers to be digestible for those who are not as analytic
The point,
Is the Eve economy functioning as an actual market, are bidsand offers clearing, are participants able to aquire goods and services, and at what rate.
Benefits to the players,
What goods and services in your region or a perspective region are in demand.
Should I consider elsewhere as a way to make a better return on my time in game.
No BS, whats that low sec sov space actuallyhave to offer? Is it worth the trade of from nomad low sec living? Care Bear hi sec?
In conclusion,
The MER informs players of the real state of the Eve economy so they can make informed choices on what to put their in game time towards, and how to price their goods and services in a way with a more complete and longer term forcasting than the market history infor can alone

What is “active character” in MER? Character that have logged on at least once during the report period ? (30 days?)

If you are new, you probably dont know. If you’re not new, you should be aware of this. Its, in a nutshell, a breakdown of the economy for November. Sinks, faucets, most mined, most npcs killed etc.

Sink is what reduces isk from the game. Sales tax, broker fees etc. Those are sinks…
Faucets introduce isk. Pve missions, bounties, production etc.
But there has to be a balance of sinks to faucets

The markets are player driven. One of the most complex in mmos
