Need L4 Machariel Fit

Hey guys,

i am ready to hop in a Mach now (Both BS Skills to V + Large projectile Turret V).

What would you recommend for smooth Level 4 runs (complete, not blitzing specifially)?

Costs should not exceed 1.3b.

Rattlesnake. Machariels used for blitzing, their auto cannons losing way to much dps with range to be as effective as Rattlesnake with sentry drones.

replace drones as you choose you prbably want some hammerheads

This fit is designed as a blitz fit, but works pretty much fine for full clears too. Use the MWD and MJD to control range and apply DPS, or kite away from high dps enemies. Could easily swap the rigs for more tank, projection, or whatever stat you want.

Arty fits work, but lose a ton of dps. My arty fit is pretty similar but with a light shield tank. It can hit from far enough away it can avoid most damage. I only use it for a few missions.

Rattler puts up huge dps numbers, but loses a lot of that damage in practice. also it’s super freaking slow, I really don’t like flying them. Probably a perfect structure basher but vs many small enemies like in missions, not a fan.

Use faction ammo, and don’t link your turrets. The cycle time on artillery sucks, but 1400s can one/two shell rat cruisers, and volley most rat BCs. They also have abysmal tracking, so you will want to be 45-50 km off of your closest target and be stationary or headed away from the group of rats that have targeted you; your guns won’t hit a webbed, orbiting frigate, so carry light drones.
Managing artillery is a lot like managing cruise missiles with instant damage.

I’ll also point out that with the exception of gurristas, most rat battleships can’t reliably hit past 40 km or so, even if you are stationary. At ranges good for artillery use, you won’t be taking much damage.

Even with rapid heavy missile launchers? :slight_smile:

Note, that at 50 km range you will be lucky appling more than 600 DPS without drones. Which is pretty low even comparing with what can sentry drones Dominix apply from 100+ km (about 700 instant DPS). The fact, that you will be able to complete any L4 with that fit does not mean you should. Because of ISK/hour efficiency. Cap booster charges will spam your cargohold and make the usage of the chip for whole room clear even worse…

Rattlesnake can be fitted for damage application (rapid havy missile launchers) or range tank from 150 km with cruise missiles (less DPS, but also less micromanagement).

Rattler with RHML has better application, but long reload times, can have range issues looks like 47-63km with fury and faction respectively, and the RoF is so high it is easy to waste volleys.

Just a short note re: RHML Rattlesnake setups. You will often lose more DPS to lost volleys so a third ballistic control is often counterproductive (a slower rate of fire is actually more beneficial here and you would probably gain more from a missile guidance enhancer). A set of T2 hydraulic rigs is the best pairing as it boosts missile velocity and range. I would also use the mid slots to augment drones instead of missiles.

You are correct with waste volleys. No AFK ratting :wink: Half your damage comes from drones, so after couple of volleys you leave the target on your drones and start shooting other NPC. Faction missiles have about 110 km range. Wardens have over 80 km optimal and almost 100 km control range. If you have perfect missile skills you can exchange one missile guidance computer to omnidirectional tracking link and get your wardens optimal almost at drone control range (over 98 km).
Yes, it takes time to get experience how to not lose your volleys :wink: On the other hand you can apply up to 1400 DPS cold from LMJD 100 km range (T2 drone rigs) with reasonable application. With Machariel you will hardly get to half of that due to large guns shooting at all kind of targets within falloff (not optimal).

Sentry drones have falloff, too. Not too mention that you’re looking at EM (Curator) and kinetic (Warden) locks - so even with full skills, damage modifiers and tracking you’re only looking at about 650-700 DPS from drones.

You get more damage with cruise missiles, but even with rigs, implants and missile enhancers you lose most of the DPS against anything smaller than battlecruisers. There’s also the kinetic and thermal lock, so it will excel against some NPC types and be less effective against others. You can opt for rapid launchers but again you lose out on lost volleys and reload times.

I did an extensive analysis of the Rattlesnake at one point in the past and the 1400 (or higher) DPS numbers usually work out to around 1100-1200 DPS once you factor everything in (and that’s with a lot of bling). This puts it on par with most other Pirate ships and slightly higher than Marauders.

In truth, I can usually run circles around any Rattlesnake with my Kronos because I can MJD to point-blank range and apply the full 1300-1700 DPS against anything (grapplers are awesome). It’s immune to EW and the 48km tractor range and cargo space allows me to easily loot and salvage key missions.

I can’t touch Machariels for blitzing but for full clears (and especially salvaging) Marauders are hard to beat.
