I place a CC on a planet, I open templates and load and the template gets placed on the other side of the planet. i have to then drag it to be next to the CC, any way to stop this stupid behaviour
You can drag or use the provided sliders until it appears in front of you…

It’s uncommon for players to want to have their extractors and factories on the other side of the planet from the command center.
While it’s technically not needed to have the command center next to the extractors the command center is your first point of view when you open a planet, which makes it a pain to move extractor heads if you first need to find your extractors every time you open the planet.
A good improvement to templates is if the template would start somewhere nearby the command center.

Indeed i can, but that is faff and unncessesary. I want it to appear near to the CC that I place, as suggested in my OP
