Planetary Industry Templates

Dear Capsuleers,

The Planetary Industry (PI) Templates aim to streamline your operations, allowing you to set up a planetary colony and save it to a PI browser. You can then share your layouts with your fellow capsuleers and corporation members, or use them to set up a new colony much faster than before.

For now the new templates are an opt-in preview feature. To enable them open the Settings Menu (Esc), go to the Feature Previews category and click Enable on Planetary Industry Templates.

We are happy to receive any and all feedback that you have, but we are specifically interested in feedback on the current implementation of the PI templates as well as additional features that would make these templates even better. To make it easier to read and process, please post your suggestions in the following format:

  • Current Implementation Feedback

    • Moving the pins to the top of the planet is not always smooth
  • Additional Feature Requests

    • Add reset extractors button

Thank you so much for checking out this first iteration of the PI Templates and we look forward to getting your feedback!

Apologies for the delay - the post should now be available to reply to!

A feature about β€œRelocating” existing PI ← this is very important on extractor planets, currently as far as i’m seeing i need to destroy buildings first then load the template

Shared templates appear to be just a clipboard text vomit rather than a shareable link (like sharing a skill plan). This makes sharing a plan (or even a library) more difficult and risks corruption of the setup if the full text is not captured:

Would also like to see the Extraction/Production portions of these templates be selectable/configurable so that one template can be saved then modified to allow one template for P1 materials (just change input/output. Same for P2/3/4. This would reduce the need for a separate template for each PI type.

Reading comprehension is really lacking in this thread.
They’re making the effort to ask for legitimate feedback - don’t screw this up.

Hello, i find the problem. Templates don’t save if space exists in the path for template file.
Or path name different language not english.

Took a quick look, can see value if switching between materials such as P2, or fine tuning P1s.

Since the value is largely (entirely?) planet specific, could you add a button or default to make a template planet specific. Since the setup will define the material be extracted, include that as well in the template description.

So β€œPlanet 6QE-I1 extracting Felsic Magma” as the provided, but editable, description / name?

Best QOL update 2024.

Additional Feature Requests

  • A Rotate Facilities feature is needed for more eye-candy placement. You can sorta rotate stuff with the Axis B slider but that moves the facility around the surface a lot.

maybe the option to only copy part of the planet setup would be nice

I usually split my installations in 3 groups of: x1 harvester, x1 launch pad, x2 factories, x1 (occasionally) advanced factory, to process raw materials into ready use commodities.

  • Current Implementation Feedback
    • It saves all pins as one group
  • Additional Feature Requests
    • Let me select a particular group ex. hold Ctrl and mouse drag them or Ctrl+Shift+LMB to add/remove to/from selection. and maybe Ctrl+A to select all and LMB anywhere on the surface to deselect all?
    • Save selection as a template and then let me insert it along the existing groups.
    • Or let me quickly delete the group of selected structures

Maybe they should play factorio for some ideas on how to work PI
