Radical improvement to mining: the audible alert module

You change visual to auditory. That’s a new. It means I can ignore the screen fully while you promote afk mining even further.

TL;DR:

Mining doesn’t pay well because it is extremely easy. Make it easier with a module like this and it will pay even less, eroding what little value it still has.

The long version:

I will proceed from your initial assertion.

You want to make money, so you proposed a change that will make it easier to get items you use to make money.

After the change, everyone, not just you, will be able to mine AFK more, and given that it’s already a rampant activity, chances very good a large number of people would follow suit and mine more often.

Now that people are mining more, supply of minerals has increased, but demand for those minerals has not also increased. The value of the mining profession decreases.

Players may respond to this decrease in one of two ways. Either they will try to mine even more to maintain their status quo, or they will change professions. In the event of the former, the value will decrease even further, and in the event of the latter they’d be admitting that AFK mining was not a good way to make ISK, even while AFK.

In no case is there an ultimate outcome that is clearly a benefit to the audience who would use such a module, thus I think we could all do without it.

someone made an app that made noise for local changes, it got banned pretty quickly, really doubt CCP will do it.

A small loss in revenue is a tiny price to pay for making mining less dull, and making ganks on miners more meaningful.

Two clear benefits listed in this reply alone.

No significant downside found as yet.

@MinerArt Bots are perfectly capable of keying off visual information. They don’t need audio. If you’re truly worried about bots, make the mod Omega only.

Cool info. Looks like it was going for 5 years before banned.

This mod provided part of the functionality to non-miners eg PvE ships. PvE is generally non-AFK and I can see why CCP would be cagey about the effect on ganking PvErs. Especially where only a few people would know about the mod.
It also provided it at no in-game cost and would help bots avoid ganking.

BTW I suggested the other alerts because local provides much less information in W-Space.

I wish there was an audible chime for reds and nutes in general entering the system.

Grinding away at rocks for hours to get enough ore to reprocess into minerals to build a BB or BC, tends to be a draining ordeal.
After scanning eyes pealed to Dscan for 4+ hours, you get exhausted and drowsy.
Having an audible q to get you back to full alertness would help a lot.
Even if it was the same audible note for everyone who enters a system, red, blue, nut.
If you are in a dead end system or a quiet one, this would help a lot.
Plus if you are running sites, your focus is drawn by the rats, especially in smaller ships.

I definitely wouldn’t allow it for PvE ships. There’s no real excuse for being AFK in one, plus you’re in a ship that can fight back to some degree.

Mining ships only and probably as a mid or low slot module.

No.

Everything that makes AFK gameplay more secure or even possible is extremely bad for the game. If anything they should change mining so that the pilot has to remain at the keyboard and actually play the game.

Mark it down, kids- I’m a miner agreeing with CODE.

More engagement=good
Less engagement=bad

Op is exactly what we would call a “bot-aspirant”. If botting was legal he would totally do it, but since it isn’t he tries to get as close as possible and automates as much as he can to minimize the time he has to interact with the game. He is not a bot, but he aspires to be one.

People like the op are the sole reason the New Order of Highsec and CODE. exists.

So PI should be removed from the game?

Also, maybe you can keep the childish ad hominems out of conversations between adults.

It probably should. There is no one who will describe PI as fun or interesting gameplay, at least after the first week. It is only done because it provides essential and valuable resources and the click-fest has probably burnt a non-negligable number of players out of them game who were chasing “easy” passive ISK.

CCP finally got rid of passive moon mining last year and I am sure if they had the resources and the right idea, would love to replace PI with something more interactive and resembling an active game than the status quo.

As to the OP, nah. Play the game, or just buy a PLEX and pay someone else to play it for you. But let’s not throw out the whole idea of resources and resource collection mattering because you are too lazy to actually keep your attention on the game. What’s the point of making people spend time loitering in space if you are just going to remove all the risk of doing so?

PI does not happen in space. And yes it is a completely under-developed feature which should get some massive changes to make it multiplayer, like it was intended 8 years ago.

What ad-hominem do you mean? Because I called you a bot-aspirant? You try to make AFK gameplay easier, that’s what we call this people. If you don’t like that, then don’t make suggestions for an AFK module.

So are you saying that would bring down moon poo prices??

Well I’m not here to argue for PI. If you want to mount a campaign to have it removed from the game, go for it. No-one is stopping you.

As to the OP, nah. Play the game, or just buy a PLEX and pay someone else to play it for you.

Maybe you should hire somebody who can actually kill a miner who’s not AFK?

But let’s not throw out the whole idea of resources and resource collection mattering because you are too lazy to actually keep your attention on the game.

Tell you what. Post a video of you reading out D Scan, local and your overview whilst mining for 4 straight hours.

Let’s see if you can do that once, never mind daily.

Then you’re qualified to have an opinion.

Sorry but this is just an idiotic statement. Not only PI but you’d also ban being docked safely.

If anything they should change mining so that the pilot has to remain at the keyboard and actually play the game.

But not as idiotic as this statement.

Most people don’t find it fun to get their ships and stations blown up.

Should probably be removed.

This is EVE and not McDonalds. You’re not supposed to like everything … or everyone.

So far, the only downside posted is that bots might be able to hook into the code better. If true, Omega-only would fix.

The rest is people who can’t cope with the reality that all(?) miners AFK or multitask. Or want their AFK kills…

The fact you think making it “omega only” would somehow prevent bot abuse of it is laughably amusing. As if there arent bots using omega accounts right now.
