SKINR UPGRADES

Something I do happen to agree with, come to think of it, is that each listing needing a listing fee and sales tax is a bit much. I don’t think that either are oppressive or inappropriate amounts of money (15% tax after skills is a nice enough number to disincentivize predatory buyouts, for example, and the listing fees are negligible compared to the amounts most sales net, IMO), but I do think that there’s redundancy in what they’re accomplishing for the market overall. At best, the only thing more the listing fee prevents compared to the tax (again, this idea of slowing big fish buyouts) are situations where people can spam with outrageous, unrealistic listings ad nauseum, but they do that anyway, even with the fee, so it seems a little lost.

As for the other stuff you mention – I agree with some of it. This doesn’t seem to be the system they pitched to players when they first announced SKINR (a game I don’t have much skin in, though, as I wasn’t personally aware of much about this before it launched anyway), and there are clearly more improvements that can and maybe should happen to get SKINR to a better spot overall, so maybe that’s it being half-baked. I mostly agree with what you have to say about new design elements and capabilities. I think I agree about corp and alliance skins; I even have some posts around here talking about how it might be effective to have custom skins that can be toggled by CEO/FC players in real time while docked to broadly apply skins to grouped members. Though, I can also appreciate why they’re being careful about that kind of thing…

As for your last point about earning and sales – I can definitely relate to the feeling of wanting something to sell, not having it sell, and attributing that to some kind of fault in the marketplace. I even have a recent post to that effect, specifically pointing to the recent reductions to sequencing time and cost as possible culprits. However, at the same time, I also managed to net some sales shortly after making that post, and those were to the tune of around 1.2b each, so it’s probably more likely that there’s just a lot of ebb and flow to how things move.

To date, I’ve moved about 3500 plex worth of custom skins, and, even after investing heavily into nanos/patterns/sequencer mats/etc., my profit is around 5.5b, total revenue around 15b, highest sale around 1.5b. Things sell. You just need to find what moves – and you need to have a little luck.

The listing fee probably makes sense from a spam/abuse standpoint. It’s not entirely unreasonable…

Question: Are you selling for ISK or PLEX? (that may make a huge difference)

Argh, I must have missed this reply as well (sorry!), so I’ll answer your question now, months after the fact. It might actually be more relevant to answer with PLEX being as valuable as it is on the market currently.

Basically, I sold skins for PLEX initially because it seemed flashier or somehow more streamlined with how people were expected to shop within the Paragon Hub anyway – patterns/nanos cost PLEX, initializing a sequence cost PLEX, even CCP’s official skins cost PLEX, so why not have skins cost PLEX as well? When that didn’t turn into the sales that I thought it might, I swapped to ISK and haven’t really looked back since. There’s just a real weight to PLEX as a premium currency, and, at the time at least, there seemed to be a spike in stigma because of how hotly people disliked having to spend so much PLEX for SKINr. Maybe it was just poor timing?

Now might be different. Because PLEX market costs are up, it’s possible that ISK is at a little more of a premium, so maybe PLEX plays better when ISK is scarce. Ideally, we would have a monthly economic report to give us more of a window into this kind of thing. Maybe someday.

Bro, are you ■■■■■■■ serious? Triple taxation is the norm in the real world and in some cases quad taxation., sales tax, then business tax, then income tax, then value added tax, THEN (if its inherited) inheritence tax.

Do you have any issues with taxation you ■■■■■■■ right wing extremeist?

I think the SKINR enhancements in Revenant will be a game changer in terms of custom SKIN offerings.

Agreed. I wonder if we’ll have resources soon to tell us what the new cost structures will be like. For example, will adding another pattern cost the same as an original pattern? If all of this is just directly additive without a proper explanations for the consumer, I could see there being a lot of sticker shock moments beyond what people are already experiencing. I wonder how much CCP is considering that.

That is a very good question. I believe the maximum design “level” is now something like 20. I do know that the EverMark cost for a private listing is based on the design complexity, so a max Titan design will set you back something in the mid 20k’s.

Hmmm, yeah, I guess I never really thought about what the current max design level is. Good to know!

Slightly unrelated, anyone else experiencing a sales slump? I haven’t had anything move for like a month. The only other time I’ve had this kind of freeze was maybe early august before the first batch of new features. Anyone else have any luck recently?

It’s probably because buyers are waiting on the new designs that include the 40+ patterns, new colors and more elaborate SKINs with the second pattern.
