The feature would be a small one line added to the information tab on all player produced items. It would credit the producer of the product, so they get attention for building it.
Example: This item was produced by Dark Scumlord 4792.
Now one might think this is a lame idea, but it appeals to the producer’s base ego and narcissism. It encourages others to gain fame as weapon manufacturers, ship builders, and other types of production.
It would require a database rewrite, because currently packaged items (i.e. all items sold on the market) are not unique.
Right now ‘creator’ is already used for abyssal rolled items, because each of those is a unique database entry and cannot be traded on the market but has to be traded via contracts.
It would require a huge rewrite if this was extended to the rest of all items while also keeping all those items on the market.
I don’t do production, this is not for me, it is suggestion. I thought this was the suggestions area of the forums? Can a forum moderator please move it out of forum PvP to suggestions?
From your comment i’m not sure that you really realized that you didn’t post in wrong section. You posted in feature previews and feedback to them. You are here supposed to discuss feature ideas of CCP, not present your own. That section is way down in the forums at Player Features & Ideas - EVE Online Forums
But I’m afraid you will get similar discussion in the correct area as well. This is a forum for discussion afterall.
and this suggestion has been made before and i think even CCP mentioned that its not possible due to how everything on the market is the same ID.. i build and sell a raven, its the same ID that Gerard will have has well.
Unnecessary and utterly pointless idea, unless a manufacturer of a Babaroga, let’s say, can manufacture it in a way that produces a hull that is different from the default hull. And I’m not saying we need that either. Just to get your name attached to a hull you manufacture – I guess you gotta be really insecure to need something like that to feed your ‘ego’.
Abyssal mods and SKINr aleady get the name of the creator attached to them.
