I didn’t want to go into the topic of whether killboards should exist or not, but I’ll touch upon it anyway:
Even if CCP did not provide an API for developers to read out killmails, Killboards would not go away. A long time ago an API like that did not exist. People just copied their kill- and lossmails there, and the killboard would parse it. In the end, it looked about the same as it does today.
Of course, CCP could also take away any form of kill- or loss-report. But then people would just copy the relevant parts from the game log and let the killboard parse those. And if CCP took the game log away, that would enter silly-territory, as then it would be next to impossible to tell what even happened in some fights, even for the people involved.
So, whether or not killboards need to exist, they do, and they can’t be removed.
Back on topic - the last 12 rokhs killed in high sec were not fitted for mining. This is according to killboard, ironically enough. Maybe you should just answer your own question, for yourself, and just get out there and do it on the basis that your numbers are good and the risk appears unknown?
PS. Will be interested to hear how you personally solve your offloading problem though.
Don’t forget the gankers who are paid to clear a belt of miners so a corp or alliance can have it all for themselves, often found in ice belts. I know of at least three cases where the gankers have admitted as much - including one who actually said “Nothing personal, I’m just doing what I’m being paid for”.
This is the best explaination of why, anything else (killboard padding, isk making, etc), is just icing on the cake, I could do my best psychoanalyzing approach to explain the individuals who do this but there is no point as it does no good because you’re not dealing with normal folk.
I have tried baiting these mtu seekers but they don’t seem to be attracted and love it when they do show up I start repping it with a BS that is cap stable so they just keep trying to kill it some just keep going for long periods to kill it and that always has me perplexed as to the level of banging the head against a wall as they are not getting anywhere but still try and won’t make a rational decision to stop, often I just get to a point of leaving out of boredom.
