A good , relatable , plot , is a good , relatable plot.
Both of my parents were like this father. When I was a kid I thought they were assholes.
We still don’t get along , but you get older , and older , and learn the hard way that things are not so simple .
Good intentions not uncommonly lead to lousy outcomes , and even deliberately evil motives sometimes , somehow , have these accidental good outcomes. 
A surprisingly gratifying thing I have found so far in the EVE RP side of things is that while you would expect to see a lot of simplistically heroic PVP chest - thumping in it , you actually see quite a bit that reflects the PVE / Care Bear side of things ; ordinary people doing ordinary things in a very muddled world.
