There’s a third party tool called EVE-O Preview which allows for easy switching between clients, however it doesn’t work on OS other than Windows.
There have been attempts to get it working on Linux with some success, but for non-technical people like me it’s impossible. Perhaps the steam-linux client doesn’t play nice with it, who knows.
It’s time for CCP to step up and add this UX feature to their base client for all OS. Why there’s a multi-boxing requirement (effectively) in order to play Eve to its full potential, and yet no support for client switching, IDK.
Client switching. Make it happen.
For a business case, you could advertise the fact you’ve added the feature and convince more people to get >1 account. Sound good? Make it so.
The issue with this being added to the client, since it already exists as a 3rd party app, CCP doesn’t need to pay anyone to work. They won’t bother adding whitelisted apps such as this, when it will cost them nothing to keep the existing state of affairs.
@Arthur_Aihaken I assume you mean an open source version of this app or fusing it into the Mac OS client? The OP wants it merged into the current client as a feature. Of course it goes without saying, adding stuff to the client never works well for everyone. I for one don’t multibox, to me this would just be more bloat.
CCP doesn’t, but Steam does. I got three clients running on here. It doesn’t matter if CCP doesn’t support it, it runs, albeit while turning my CPU into a heater. Meanwhile, Eve-O-Preview is windows specific code and cannot work with linux at all. Not even wine. Not even with the special github repo that says it works.
As it stands it’s a material advantage to players running on Windows, I’ve had to split my screens to see all my chars instead of the previews that Eve-O-Preview shows. It’s horrid and I’ve had to change all my windows around to suit it. Look! It’s awful! Look how little space I have to actually view anything D:
