yah i loved the post by the guy that thinks all the old players are going to leave or die off so the game should only be about younger ones
the really funny part was he thought 30 - 40 was “older” , apparently he has never been to fanfest to see how old many dedicated players are.
besides, being retired gives me more time to play and more real money to spend ))

If you built a sandcastle one time, why woudln’t you be able to recoup and build a new bigger and better sandcastle?

I think by old/older players, the guy meant people who have been playing the game for many years now, and don’t find much fun in it anymore, so you get the term bittervets.

Shoudn’t be related to their actual age. A 70yo grandpa can be a new player if they just joined a few months ago, while a 15yo can be a bittervet, if they have been playing since they were young kids.

Yes, because gameplay features that screw you over if your connection dies or if the server acts up is certainly something most people are looking forward to. Not to mention that CCP even had to pander to these “elite players” to actually go do that stuff at all in the early days by turning the suspect flag off for high-class traces. And once you figured this 1 PVE thing out, you are set for making even more money than in anoms, have even less variety of activities, and you are immune to interference in the trace and outside if you use a single braincell.

All in all: Abyssal space is a smashing success that has achieved all its goals.

I still wonder how the inflation skyrocketed only during recent times. How did the economy not go into full inflation before like what’s happening how? According to statistics, the online player number before is much greater than that of the present, and botters and multiboxers are always present.

yah that guy specifically mentioned the age range, thats why i thought it was funny. btw i am a 71 year old grandpa with kids and grandkids that have played EVE and moved on. They jump from game to game, but i am still here. EVE is interesting and has a lot of depth. 10 years in game seems short

prices have gone up because of the intentional starvation of minerals introduced a few months back. however, prices are dropping again on some minerals because all of the trit is in HS and being mined like crazy by everyone that can field a ship. Oddly, moon ore prices are down a good bit. Notice, however, a lot more cheap t1 ships being used in fleets , hence, less demand for moon goo. it is still puzzling though how a major war hasnt really blown the market out completely. I think some of the high ship prices are just profiteers using the mineral shortage as an excuse. inflation? i think that is more a function of larger groups of people not able to print isk by ratting. on the other hand, incursions and triglavian filaments are a strong isk faucet. bottom line, too many variables right now to identify the real source of inflation.

Because all the wealth faucets were dialed up to maximum around 2015.

Moon ore prices are down because the war isn’t driving that much ship destruction. the blue mega doughnut has reduced casual PvP to almost nothing. There aren’t ‘a lot more’ cheap t1 ships being used in fleets. the doctrines havent changed, they are still dominated by hacs, logi cruisers, assault frigates and T1 battleships. at the stage the war is in currently and the last few weeks, it is dominated by uncontested structure grinding which normally does not see that many structures destroyed

that is primarily what it meant, longer term players who dont care about the game anymore and younger players can be anyone at any age that just started.

However, it cannot be denied that millennials are starting to have kids and families nor can the effects of that type of change in lifestyle that drives, which heavily involves not playing time consuming video games anymore.

you mean when you go to fanfest and you see almost no one there compared to the entire eve population? there are HUNDREDS of thousands of eve players. ten thousand showing up to a conference is less than a rounding error and doesnt come even close to representing the eve player base

you are probably right. the ones that attend not only have the time to go but the resources to go. hence the feeling of a class reunion rather than a full spectrum of players.

Not gonna lie, one of the biggest concerns I had with the Abyss before trying it out was the fear of disconnecting, my game crashing, or the server dying, meaning my 50m+ investment could go up in smokes due to something that’s not in my control.

Being like that, I tested it on the test server, tried to replicate a disconnect by unplugging the internet cable a few times, and managed to successfully get back into the game in all attempts.

When you disconnect, the timer in the Abyss keeps running, but you don’t get an NPC combat log-off timer in there, so if you disconnect, your ship seems to disappear from space on the fly.

As long as you manage to come back and complete the site before the timer runs out, then you are good.

So far, after running hundreds, if not thousands of fillaments, I only had 3 or 4 disconnets midway, but managed to start up the game and get back into the action just fine.

I’m not sure if his wasn’t the case when Abyss was originally introduced, but it’s fully viable to play even with disconnections and crashes into account.

If it’s a server side issue, making you unable to get back in the game in time, then I believe CCP actually reimburses your stuff.

All you need is a ticket and some patience.

Sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. Prepare to hear, “our logs show nothing”.

Except of course if you get a power surge and your PC takes 30 minutes to reboot thanks to windows update failing.

Or country’s internet is fkd due to protest right in the middle of your abyssal.

Or you get a call, or your child or elder relative is in distress, or other emergency.

Nah, abyssals are way too much pressure to handle.

Lucky you then. I have had 6 discos in the last week. I am not going to play something where’s CCP’s garbage tier level of feature quality will ruin my day just like that.

This is why I prefer Anomalies and Missions. Due to real life, I now have grand children living with me and from time to time i have to leave my computer and go deal with some situation that arises even though I only log in after they are asleep or gone for school.

Once right after starting a run, the school called and I had to go pick up my granddaughter. Lost a Gila. Lost another one a few nights later when I had to go deal with another grandkid that woke up after a bad dream.

With a mission or anom it would have just clicked on autopilot (since I have a station/citadel in system set as destination) and left to deal with real life, no video game loss involved. So even though that anom or mission don’t pay anywhere near a good lvl 5 or 6 Abyssal run, I stick with them because they are much much more grown person friendly.

Lets be real we played time consuming games because that was basically all that was available and we were no lifer kids. IT’s been 17 years since this game began and those who started then have grown up married had kids and a life. In that time frame the number of available games have exploded MASSIVELY. Eve is now competing with hundreds of thousands of online games (and even more offline games). The amount of people who have the time and drive to be a no lifer is lower than ever. Why bother when you can hop on a server with some friends play some among us rounds and then pop over to the next game or interaction? Why bother investing a significant chunk of your life when the developer might ruin your efforts on a whim? Eve’s contemporaries are either dead or on life support (thanks to the sunk cost fallacy). People are just not willing to invest their life in something that in the end is meaningless. Not unless that investment comes with fun and experiences that make it worth it.
