Version 18.12 - General Feedback

Thank you for KILLING THE GAME

I don’t know if this is the right place to rant about the event, but can we please have the option to decline at least one challenge a day, with the possible bonus of not getting the same type until downtime?
The RNG nature of the event locked me in a place where my options are:

  • kill a battleship
  • kill 4 battleships
  • finish a combat site in low-sec
  • finish a combat site in null sec

If I’m not lucky enough to not get the kill stolen, I simply won’t be able to progress in the event!

This. I understand that with 4 challenges the thought was that it wasn’t possible to lock anyone out of a path forward. Reality, however, is that for newish players without all the skills needed to successfully do all the different content it can easily happen…

okay its been 7 days since we have seen an ice belt in our area. however the unoccupied system with low index 13 jumps away now has two. the random respawn really sucks. i understand you want us to move around and lose more ships as miners, but really, we should get ice belts in systems we have made the effort to index. upgrade, and have supporting infrastructure around at least once a week…

To me the issue seems to be the distance…13 jumps is pretty ridiculous. In the same constellation I think would be ok…we have cap ships specifically designed to haul fleets of barges (compression would help) to get it back to where ever the indy set up is. A bit of a bother sure…but very doable.

i have a couple of concerns with this new ice respawn mechanism. Most of us bought into the structure and support aspect of choosing space to live in and work in. This is a forced change to a less structured approach and follows your ā€œnomadicā€ playstyle being shoved down our throats.
the location of ice belts is viewable by anyone, so hunters know where to go. They only need to bring their hunters there. The miners must provide a mining team, a defense team and a logistical team to do what they used to do in their home systems without the benefit of structures for docking.
in two cases this week, the ice has spawned in someone elses home space… I guess we are just supposed to swoop in and take it. Its the ESS all over again. even industrialists have to be thieves in the new CCP model. Sure we could ask our friends before hitting their ice. but given the reduction of available resource people are reluctant to share.
We still need to fuel our homes, if all this is just to feed gankers, then mission accomplished. if it was intended to keep industrialists playing after so much has been taken away already, then its a terrible plan. Put the ice back into the systems it belongs in or at least within the constellation as said above.

I am hoping this is a good place to put some feedback regarding the Yoiul Festival YC122 event.

The short is that the event is frustrating. The cause being a discriminatory gating mechanism.

For clarification, a gate in computer games is any game mechanic that restricts access until the player completes some goal. Gates are good for quests and story progression. In MMO’s gates also show up for paid vs unpaid. A discriminatory gate is one that restricts play to a sub-set of players.

In MMO’s events like this should not have discriminatory gates or only low threshold gates. This event appears to have high threshold gates that restrict progression to ā€œeliteā€ players. That makes them discriminatory as many players cannot participate.

For me the gates in question are the combat and exploration challenges.

The combat challenge has already cost me my strongest ships. Most of the time, some other player drops into the site, quickly takes out everything and I get no credit. Generally, those folks are unwilling to share builds so I have no clue how they do it. When that did not happen, it took me well over 20 minutes to take down the frigates and cruisers (could not hit them consistently). The battleship was basically untouchable (repaired faster than damaged and could not hit consistently), thus resulting the loss of my ship.

The exploration event just does a vanishing act every time I get close. The one time it did not vanish, I could only get to 80% using my best scanning ship.

As you need to complete all the challenges to progress, I am stuck/gated.

I have chatted with others and found that they are gated at the same spot. We are not talking alpha players either. These are players that have been around for many years. This makes the whole event feel discriminatory as only the ā€œeliteā€ get to progress.

Am I an elite now? I think not. This is my first time doing this event with moderate success. I’m just playing eve online for 6 months and this character is less than 2 months and have an sp of 3 mill. If we can’t do an event successfully does not mean that the event is flawed.

A Heron with Gravity Capacitors and Sisters Probes does this easily with Alpha scanning skills.

As for the combat, what are you using? Its entirely doable on a T1 Battleship again on Alpha skills.

If the combat sites are giving you problems, just fleet up with some other people from your corp. Problem solved. A corpmate and I did just that earlier and made a killing doing the combat sites

Armageddon, was fitted for drones and armor tanking. Couple of Beam Lasers, Cruise Missiles and Rapid Fire Heavy Missiles. I brought good amount of missiles but I was close to dry by the time the battleship showed. Armor was in sad shape as well. The Beam lasers would almost never hit. Even when they did, it was for a fraction the damage the stats suggest. The missiles just did not seem to do much damage. Went thru 20+ drones, mostly light trying to destroy the frigates.

Scout is a Anathema. Never heard of Gravity Capacitors before. I have core probes, not Sister probes but the stats are almost identical.

My corp is small, and scattered. We are often not on at the same time. We are mostly miners/builders.

Mixing weapons is generally a poor idea, and your Beams will miss frigates at sub optimal ranges due to tracking.

Missile based ships are quite good, I use a Typhoon with Rapid Heavy missiles. Lasers, esp beams you need to increade the range on to hit smaller faster targets. Tracking enhancers and webs might help but really large lasers are not the best idea.

For armour, are you fitting appropriate Resistence modules (usually 2 ir 3), a 1200 plate and a Repper? Ancillary Armour reppers are good because enemy neutralisers wontvaffect tgem while they have cap charges available (also, enemy neuting is another good reason to use missiles over lasers, less relianxe on capacitor). These rats also primary your drones, so its not unusual to go through a few, but use light drones for the frigates.

Anathema is a good ship too for scanning, the Gravity Capacitor is a Rig, and a must for any scanner really. Have as many as you can fit. They can be tech 1 no probs.

The best part about Sisters scan equip is the launcher also gives you a scan bonus as well as the probes.

so a wild mix like your harbinger?

read about tracking please.

Yeah, I mean, Id probably advise you check out some info in EvE Uni about fitting and such, I like your moxxy, but your fits could use work, if you dont mind me saying so.

EDIT: Dang, accidently replied to myself.

once again NO ice in our entire region. this is just wrong. please make the ā€œrandomā€ ice respawns land in at least the same region if not the same constellation. Please

Sadly eve Uni has removed all of their fits :frowning: Happened back i nearly fall

The updated guidance on EVE Uni around how to design a fit is even more valuable than the constantly outdated pre-made fits they had to fight to keep current.

Yeah spotted that. Guess the example fits were getting a bit old on it

is it just me or are server ticks very slow today? resetting 10 extractors took me 2mins

yesterday i saw a shield boosting rhm praxis do the site in low sec, didn’t seem to have too much trouble untill i killed him.
My VNI also tanked the Battleship rat just fine. Loot was crap though.
