I have the velator and I’m trying to get 2 civilian gatling railguns to work on my ship only one has energy tho trying to understand everything still

If you are going after NPC ( rats ), you can do more damage with the Venture and some anti-matter hybrid guns off the market. Toss on a shield extender for some more tank. Most rats in the start up missions and career training don’t deal a lot of damage. Start training drone skills and add 2 hobgoblins in the drone bay as well.

The free corvettes are the equivalent of a ‘rusty dagger and dirty loin cloth’ from fantasy mmos, something to be replaced as soon as possible

Finally a genuine new player question - Welcome!
You can put modules offline and online again, the easiest way is when docked in the fitting window (cmd + f).
But as already mentioned, you may buy two 125mm ‘Scout’ accellerator Cannons (railguns) and some “antimatter charges s” and enjoy much better results.
