I noticed a new map UI and finally the drone manager UI is fixed (it displays drones in space as a list, instead of icons, if configured that way). BTW, I submitted a detailed bug report about this like 3 or 4 expansions ago and made a thread about it in the “Player Features & Ideas” section. So much can be improved in those tools. This is the first non-cosmetic improvements to the UI for me. Is there something else that has changed lately?
They seem to have finally got rid of the stargate/undock sound following you around for the next 57 jumps. Which was annoying as I had to put on some death metal or something to drown it out.
I’m not sure what the changes are, but the undock, warp, and jump sounds do seem softer. BTW, there’s also an Audio Configuration tab where you can adjust these kinds of sounds. Most importantly, there are extended options to control the sound behavior of the non-active window.
Who even remembers what was written seven or nine patches ago regarding UX/UI changes? And do those changes actually provide a better experience than the previous ones? I’d really like to have a filter bar and a search box on the Patch Notes web page, so we can easily find changes related to a specific ship, weapon, ammo type, or user interface over the last three to five years after a few months break from game.
Setting aside buffs, nerfs, and new in-game mechanics, I’ve noticed the following recent improvements also:
- A completely new Compare Tool;
- Finally, the annoying inventory search box no longer resets when switching containers.
However, I don’t consider the following as improvements:
- Personal radial statistics have been completely removed;
- The Agency window is occasionally inaccurate and seems likely to be removed soon;
- The Opportunities window now has a new ‘Freelance’ section. The tasks and quests in that section are a chaotic mess — most likely spam. Who likes what Freelancer tasks offer?
Tremendous progress for two years of effort.
Toned down voice advertisements in stations. I don’t know if my suggestion made an impact, but it’s much better now (In-station narration is slowly turning into brainwashing)
Nothing you mention is an improvement to me. On the contrary they have greatly damaged the old map in preparations for the statistics team to make the data on how we don’t use the old map anymore.
But they did make it so right clicking next system in route supports Upwell jump gates now.
I wrote about the new map earlier. I never liked the old map because it basically stress-tested all my GPUs, had imbalanced font sizes, and poor zooming and scaling. I understand why it’s so popular among null-sec players, especially when navigating simple pipeline region topologies, but for low- and high-sec, that map was just as bad as the new one.
Of course, there’s still a lot that could be improved — like adding an abstract overlay similar to what’s used on the Dotlan site, but implemented much better.
I was high sec, and the new map sucked while the old rocked.
The difference in how clearly you could make out differences in jump per systems, people per system was HUGE, but they broke these circle colours now in the old map, so people can’t go in and see what I am talking about.
