Michael Sembello - Maniac (1983)
Originally the song lyrics was about a literal maniac, a serial killer, but after the Flashdance sound team listened to the song’s demo, they decided they wanted it for the upcoming film and requested new lyrics matching the theme of the film. Both the soundtrack, the music video on MTV and the film were such successes that for a while Hollywood regarded music videos as a way to promote films.
