Fun fact spread by xkcd: the ISS travels some 1000 miles in the time it takes to listen to this song by The Proclaimers. Itās not an exact match because the orbital speed varies a little between apogee and perigee and also the orbit itself keeps changing but is close enough. Now I wonder if thereās a similar song match with kilometresā¦
So we could loop that song around 27 times and listen to it while orbiting the earth.
had a rethink and figure
Is better without , ya know, truncating, rounding
Bonus video:
IIRC, the field of view of the donward looking camera shows about 160 km of ground in the horizontal direction. The night filter is full of dead pixels and artifacts and usually thereās little to see but for the odd city or highwayā¦ and lightning stikes. Those are cool as f.
(Also: moving over the Pacific is quite a thing. It is kinda boring unless you like clouds, but also conveys how bloody large is that ocean)
