Fun factor is important. For everyone price tag of it is different but it is true that once activity is sufficiently less profitable than another activity people do switch.
That’s called optimization. Minmax is something else (actually until people told me it had a meaning in RP, I used it solely in the case of AI for turn based games).
Minimize the cost, maximize the gain.
Costs include( but are not limited to) the time, the investment of the fit, the cost per mission, the risk to get ganked, the risk to be disturbed IRL, the potential cost on connection loss, preparation before a session, etc.
Gain must consider several factors, including market value of items, chance of being disturbed, taxes, chance to be ganked eg for exploration, etc.
Why is optimization important ? Well because it’s just a continuous application “enhancement”. And this enhancement can be the progression that people require to feel invested in video games.
Also because most people don’t accept to do something for a low value.
The matter is : it’s not linked to the game.
Why do some people enjoy mining for 4 hours and other don’t ? Because it’s a subjective taste.
People who judge the other on their tastes don’t realize how stupid they are eg “gankers are moron” or “miners are stupid” or “farmers are cancers” etc. etc.
They focuis too much on how other people are playing instead of finding the activity that is fun for them in the game (I assume that insulting other people on the forum is fun for them but that should not be allowed)
