Why Can't We Have an "In-Game" Browser? :parrotdad:

You can use a browser now, what’s the problem?

Just play in windowed mode and alter the screen size that way you can have multiple windows open, simples.

Who needs a jukebox?

Most pilots will have a PC with speakers attached, or a gaming laptop with inbuilt speakers, I have both, playing any music I like has never been an issue while I play.

I blast YT music when I play EVE lol.

Steam has their built-in overlay also for quick searches.

The main potential I see for an in game browser, would be to integrate dotlan navigation. But, I’d rather CCP just make a usable 2d map (not that I want them to get rid of the 3d one.)

Dotlan is a 3rd party app/programme though and I can’t see CCP ever integrating one within the game.

I use a 27" monitor and I can easily have 4 open windows on the go by using one in each corner, or diagonally overlapped etc.

I agree, not for eve anyway. Might make sense for their blockchain thing. one of their stated goals for that project was the integrate 3d party developers.

I still want a 2d in game map for eve though.

Oh, you mean

EvE Dotlan?

That’s not in game. But yes, dotlan is exactly the type of thing I’d love in the game. However, I’d want the full map… some areas are a bit finicky to navigate with dotlan, because routes move between regions.

There is a very simple solution.

While in game, press alt-tab.

Open the browser of your choice.

In the address bar, type

Use the site as intended, when done, alt-tab back to EvE.

All while engaging your imagination and pretending that what you just did, was in game.

Or, you could role-play that your capsuleer was utilizing the fluid-router to access that info, in pod.

Final step. Pat yourself on the back followed by presenting yourself with a gold star for your stellar problem solving skills.

One has more to gain when they do something for themselves than having it pandered to them. Gives one a real sense of accomplishment!

Look, I’m not saying there aren’t work arounds, but it’s quite obvious a 2d map is more readable. (The fw map for instance is much more usable than the normal 3d map.)

CCP shouldn’t have to rely on a 3d party to host a 2d map for them, the game needs one in the client.

It’s not about being pandered to, a map is a basic feature of the game, and it’s kind of sad a 2d version of it wasn’t developed in the game client for over 20 years.

Seems to be doing quite well without one.

I don’t think the game “needs” one.

Maybe you do. But the game. Not so much.

As a nice option, sure. I get you.

i used it extensively and wrote code to take advantage of it for route planning when it was available. IGB was in no way a “nice option”, it was slow and bad at rendering. dropping it in favor of better API support was the right call
