Point was more about the OP looking for something to be salty about and having to make one out of residue when no one was forcing him to when there was absolutely zero justifiably reason not to 99% of the time anyways
I wasn’t being salty, I simply didn’t understand why it was implemented. It makes much more sense now.
My interpretation, which may be wrong, is that it started as something like the refining changes they made years ago. But along the way it changed.
Originally it was T1 had 100% residue chance, and they doubled ore, so it was a wash for T1 if that makes sense. Then Faction and T2 gear had a lower residue chance, so if you skilled more or spent more you would mine faster and have more to mine. A double bonus for the effort.
Then players started to whine “Think about the children” and CCP changed T1 to have 0% residue. Even though it takes almost no time to get from T1 to T2, I think its a few hours for a mining laser and a month for T1 crystals now that they changed refining skills. So now you mine faster but mine less total if you use higher cost/skilled equipment.
In the end, the current system is our fault not CCPs.
Null sec anoms spawn bistot, arkonor, crokite, kernite, and mercoxit after you upgrade the ihub. It’s not the most lucrative thing to mine in the game, but it’s certainly not worthless either. Bistot is like 60% more valuable than Veldspar. For the safety you can get mining anoms in your alliance’s friendly space, I think that is fair.
Type B is a faster miner, it will have more waste though. The only factor is you being on point to change and cycle lasers. for example having a survey scanner so you are not doing full cycles for 50m3 of or if that makes sense.
If you want the best ore in New Eden (Bezdnacine, Spodumain, Mercoxit), you need to come to Pochven, and compete with the big goon/frat/ph locust fleets sucking out the home systems. Also solo no point in mining anywhere else (except gas huffing in lowsec).
