A blob is any gang bigger than mine.
My gang is never a blob, though. I always bring just enough to kill the target. Just check the killboard to verify

I recall I used to go ratting in 0.5 Aurcel, and there were some of the biggest asteroids I’ve ever seen in Eve…with absolutely nobody mining them, and the system rarely has more than half a dozen people in it even at busiest times.
