Oh my, can’t let this chance go to waste.
Arsia Elkin, Arse Elk, Arsie, Selkie, Dread Elkin or whatever else I’ve known you as over the years…
It is an unmitigated pleasure to have watched your journey so far. Such a staunch Imperial, the finest FC the loyalist groups have had, community builder and outreach work, and oceans of blood spilled throughout New Eden. Fighting your fleets or one on one, I’ve rarely been able to squeeze out a clear victory. Perhaps a little too easy to get into a huff on the Summit, but we all have our flaws.
However, all those things aside, you have managed something interesting. Even as immersed as you were in the Empire’s corruption and failures, bound by blood, by family, by duty and public expectation, you allowed your eyes to remain open when closing them was the easier path. When you beheld what you did, you decided to make a choice, when the easy path was to simply ignore it and do what you were told. When the path ahead was one of losing everything, you nonetheless kept walking when standing still was the easiest path of them all.
This takes courage most will not be able to summon in a lifetime. This takes fortitude, as all those who stood still with their eyes shut hate you for being what they dare not be themselves. This takes strength, as your path takes you among those who you have wronged time and time again. It will take conviction, as you earn your place among them.
Whether you’ll earn any kind of forgiveness, I do not know. It is not my place nor my interest. What you earned even before starting your journey was the respect afforded to a fighter of skill and determination. What you’ve earned since is… a chance. To earn much, much more.
It will be very interesting to see if you will. Either way, merely earning that chance is a feat reserved to only a very select few with hearts and wills greater than most others.
Spirits at your back, Arsia Elkin, Dread Kin in the making… but don’t lose sight of how far one can fall after walking as far as you have. The potential consequences for failure is now greater than they ever have been, for you. Make certain you have someone to catch you when you trip.
