Am I wasting my time with Industry?

Hello esteemed internet personas!

I have been working hard to learn this game and am in the position where I have built a small fortune! The corporation I belong to has been giving me Blueprint Copies, and aside from that I have been viewing Blueprint Original copies?

While researching what might be a good section of industry to focus on, i have noticed that many of the items I am able to craft are listed for less than the material cost and production cost for producing them.

I do not understand how this works. Am I wasting my time with industry? I do not understand how items are crafted and then sold for less than the investment required.

Any advice for this subject would be greatly appreciated!

there’s blueprint Originals, or BPO’s
then there’s blueprint copies or BPC’s.

how are you obtaining the materials? are you mining, reprocessing, doing PI, buying off market?

Thank you for responding to my question! I am confused by this as there are so many of the same blueprints on the market.

I am mining some, however I am unable to procure specific minerals for production. Thus i am forced to purchase to complete production.

BPOs are seeded (created) by NPCs and sold on the market for a fixed price. They have unlimited runs and can be researched for better efficiency.
BPCs are copied from BPOs and have a limited number of runs. They inherit the research levels from their source BPO but cannot be researched further. They can also be used in invention to make t2 BPCs.

Just because it costs you X isk to make something doesn’t mean that the builder who sells it for cheap is paying the same.
For example, building stuff in a nullsec engineering complex takes less time and materials than in a highsec station. The System Cost Index can also play into this; if you’re building in Jita since lots of lazy people do that the SCIs are sky-high. The more of an activity that happens in a system, the higher the index gets and the more expensive it becomes to install jobs. It’s also possible that they have better supply deals than however you’re sourcing your parts; a lot of stuff being traded in nullsec goes for around Jita buy, so if you buy from sell orders not only are you less efficient than null but you also are paying more.
