AMA - CCP Acquisiton by Pearl Abyss! Starts at 16:30 UTC!

@CCP_Falcon Was the decision to move fanfest around the world and away from Iceland due to PA buying CCP and the Iceland offices being redundant?

Yep! Hilmar and I will end up old and wrinkly together here at CCP probably.

Are there any plans to add anticheat software to Eve like PA added Xinecode to BDO?

Already answered. Stop posting and read.

Has Pearl offered a written legal agreement stating theyā€™ll leave EVE up to CCP, or is it purely a verbal agreement?

If itā€™s written and binding, most of us will consider it business as usual. If itā€™s only verbal, a lot of us have played BDO and already know where thatā€™ll go lolā€¦

Hi @CCP_Guard, @CCP_Falcon,

With some very small exceptions, there are four or five main question line here: will things change and how much; will EVE adopt aspects of BDO; will EVE still be the EVE we know; and why the acquisition

These questions are good, but mostly answered by reading the linked interviews and releases and reading between the lines. These arenā€™t the things Iā€™m concerned with, what I am curious about are internal questions.

Hereā€™s my questions:

  1. With the acquisition, will Hilmar remain with CCP or does he have a sunset clause?

  2. As part of the acquisition, will remaining and ongoing CCP staff and contractors receive pay increases and development funding?

  3. Do CCP staff and contractors have job security grace periods under the agreement?

  4. Does the agreement or conversations with Pearl Abyss address improving change management and project management improvements at CCP? Can we expect to see more rigor in test before commits to prod?

  5. Did Pearl Abyss express any desire in acquiring White Wolf for the purposes of developing the tabletop gaming market in Korea with branded development? (D&D represents almost $6B for Hasbro.)

  6. Can we expect to get an EVE tabletop rpg? Has there been discussion of such expansions inside CCP with PA?

  7. Can you comment on the development progress (% complete, or deadlines) for projects which will continue under the agreement?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers,
Doc

Unlike many other online games, Eve Online is all about the players.

Itā€™ll continue to be about the players. Thatā€™s what New Eden is all about. Your stories, your conquests, your failures.

Over the long history of Eve we seen many personalities that have made huge contributions to the game, some liked and others disliked, but in the end they are players, not some inserted lore piece by the developers.
This game feels alive because it is, once you undock you have no idea how things are going to go, there are no scripts in the back guiding your experience on rails, Eve is different. From monocles to casinos, wars and treason, this place is truly unique.
Business and monetization issues aside, my main concern if for the spirit of this game, this place, this community. Sure, we know that its code running on a server with customers using it; but the people playing, investing their time and effort make it much more than that.
I hope, that the CCP acquisition by Pearl Abyss allows Eve Online to keep its unique personality, that rebel spirit that has made this game what it is today.
Was this aspect considered during the acquisition?

I hear you 110%.

Iā€™m a 16 year veteran of EVE, and this is THE REASON that I came to work here.

I love CCP, and could never think of myself working anywhere else. The nature of the company, the way we engage with our players, the spirit of the community, the history, the heritage. Thatā€™s what itā€™s all about.

No one is trying to ā– ā– ā– ā–  with that, and no one WANTS to. From what Iā€™ve heard from speaking to Hilmar, Pearl Abyss are in just as much awe as we are over the crazy ā– ā– ā– ā–  that you guys constantly pull.

The one thing that makes me the most happy about being bought by them is the fact that so far, theyā€™ve seemed to just be like ā€œhey, you guysā€¦ do your thing!ā€.

Feels really good man.

Please reassure me that the accusations of BDO using maleware in their launcher and the sudden appearance of cookies on the accounts page is strictly coincidence.

That would require a collab with the actual Hello Kitty franchiseā€¦ which may be easier with PA on board? And yes Iā€™ve been wanting that Hello Kitty Kestrel ever since I saw itā€¦ :joy:

Our target audience is global, and weā€™ll continue to develop with that in mind. Itā€™s always been this way.

We have some cool projects going on with NetEase as our publishing partner in China, and of course the re-launch of EVE China thatā€™s coming soon.

Weā€™ve said time and time again that literally the only reasons we have a seperate Chinese cluster are legal ones.

If this wasnā€™t the case, our audience would be 100% global, and you guys would be playing all together in one place.

Business as usual.

You guys want spaceships, weā€™re gonna keep making 'em.

other faction capital and super when ?

What other successful product does ccp have on the market right now?
What role does PA play in future products of ccp?

Any future plans for supertitans?

How will player data be handled? Will the data stay in EU area or moved to elsewhere? Will the future service we get be GDPR compliable?

here are no planned changes to our infrastructure, and if we want to operate in Europe, we have to stay compliant with GDPR.

I donā€™t know why this is even a question really - player data and security remains a hugely important thing for us.
