Anchored Mode for Titans

This is an idea to increase the use of Titans under normal chaotic conditions of playing EVE. The Titan would have a new feature to allow it to hard park in position once stopped and create a static location that allows bridging, sitting on tether, holding fast in a POS shield, and automatically prevents Jumping and prevents fleet warps from applying. The Anchor also allow for static log-in and log off without any warp away grids or warp in grids, no turning, or vulnerability to landing in bubbles. Anchored Titans can still be bumped off tethers with no changes to bump speed mechanics. I think this respects the extreme value of these ships and prevents anything gimmicky from causing their loss such as:

Client bugs causing movement that the pilot did not enter, moving the Titan out of the POS shield or out of range of tether.

Client crashes causing the Titan to now face a chance of catch bubbles on login, or having the logoff grid scanned during the crash.

Accidental or bug related mis-clicks to cause jumps instead of bridges.

Accidental or bug related failures in exempt from fleet warp causing the Titan to move out of safety.

Fear of using forward staged Titans preventing their use entirely, even while holding a secure non-reinforced medium or large Control tower for them to operate out of.

I think its time for EVE to move out of the meme stage and cater more to the content that people enjoy the most, where they ante up with the exact risk they want to take, when they want to take it, and see the opponents fighting response as a result. With this feature pilots would enjoy the full use of their teams titans as long as they can keep medium POS’ in position along expected combat travel routes, and move the high-risk phases of the titan to the initial move-in and move out only, and careful planning of logins if the POS is destroyed that the anchored ship logged off in.

I think this is a major quality filter that favors the games high-impact action rather than fortuitous pecker shots from creepy stalker-like hunter types, and face it, they still have many other objectives to go after that don’t prevent fast insertion, retreat, and rapid-reshipping in battle, increasing the PVP risk/reward potential per minute spent, and increasing total spilled gear.

So, you want to remove the content caused when Titans accidentally jump instead of bridge?

Why?

Forgive my ignorance, I am an alpha only player. Looking at the market, no one currently sells titans. How does any omega even obtain such a ship?

I see a list of buy offers;

  • 1 billion for Avatar
  • 390 million for Leviathan
  • 640 million for Erebus
  • 430 million for Ragnarok

I assume these offers don’t reflect actual sale prices. Otherwise I might buy a few just to say I own a Titan. Yep can’t fly it with or without omega, since I never trained the skill. I just keep it in the hangar and polish it. Then this brings up yet another odd question. If you cannot hangar a titan, why would you own it? That would be like owning a Lamborghini El Diablo and parking it on the street in the Projects. Seems to me this ship is meant to have a short life and die in a blaze of glory. I hope it goes well.

Have fun!

As these ships are only built in sov null sec, asking around in your group for people who can build one or can sell one to you is the way to obtain a Titan. They won’t be for sale in Jita.

Back in the day Titans could indeed not dock up and the Titan pilot would not be able to leave the Titan safely. The ships were also called ‘coffins’ back then, a big investment not only in ISK and skill points, but also the character that’s stuck inside.

Nowadays you can dock Titans in Keepstars.

It’s been a few years since I was in a group that was in a position to buy these. The going rate then for a Titan was 35-40 Billion ISK for the hull, and about half that again to fit it.

Personally, I don’t think anything bigger than a Heavy Assault Cruiser is fun to fly.

I do some abyssal in a punisher, if I come across a battle, I might fetch a destroyer. The bigger ships are bigger targets. I tend to agree with you on that statement.

@F0rgotten_Knowledge what about making it defend itself in the event of disconnect or log off? For example; you find a spot to “anchor” and during logoff your titan gets attacked. A game bot would take over the titan and keep it safe until you either reconnect or it safely disappears. To avoid abuse, the titan owner must not be actively engaged combat. In short, you would get the 30 second logoff timer, if you return fire on someone attacking the timer stops because you are engaged in battle. If you eject, to enter a small station, a 30 second anchor timer starts, then you safely eject locking the titan without a pilot. I imagine there would be others complaining about titans anchored around Jita 4.4 so it would have to be restricted to low and null.

I will leave this to the titan flyers to sort it out. Like I said, mine would be stuck where I bought it.

Have fun!

@Princess_Rose_Ivory Titans are usually not in a fight in the conditions I was discussing, they are either in a POS shield or on a tether of a player structure and if its a keepstar, they can just dock it anytime. The risk to tethered titans is a bump-off especially if its not a keepstar.

As for titans in other locations, the normal risk table is as-expected and they are either battle titans in battle, or travel titans in travel and until they are within a POS shield or on a tether then its free game to get them heavy pointed and aggressed upon.

The main point of this discussion is to keep random power outages, internet outages, DDOS attacks, accidental or system bug oriented client inputs from affecting the killboard and success of people invested into the higher end of the title.
