Anekāntavāda

I hope the Drifter Crisis so far has revealed to many people the benefit of working together. Not that it’s terribly new, many of the people of the Empires banded together to fight the Triglavians to save their homes. But fighting together to save your neighbor’s home regardless of the flag that flies over it? That’s what we need going forward.

We need a spirit of Anekāntavāda. The willingness to look at someone else and say, Maybe You Are Right. To consider their approaches and work together with them, like I have done with Phoenix Naval Systems these many years. Even though the State and I do not agree on many points, I know that many together are stronger than we are alone. And we, the people of New Eden, need that strength.

For the record I am not trying to push my own agendas and views on others. The cluster is not ready to accept that. But I hope that in the face of these many threats that have emerged over the years that this spirit of cooperation thrives and deepens. And that we may move to toss away some of our more petty and smaller differences. Turn the sword away from each other and towards the Other that is outside of New Eden and threatening us with destruction and death. Foes that best us in technology on nearly every front.

So, what is the point of this post? Not much I suppose beyond me wishing to express how I think we are going in the right direction. But we have farther to go. The progress has been good. But we aren’t there yet.

Just think of what we can do together if only we could get past our own egos and prejudices.

Cooperation and cuddly feelings are nice and all, but some factions around the cluster are too intent on standing upon their righteous platforms to ever consider lowering themselves to the level of the rest of us.

Even if they do, it takes two to tango, and you find that when they eventually take the dancefloor and wrap their arms around you, you feel a distinctly knife-shaped object poking into your spine.

I’ll accept working together behind the scenes while they stab me in the back publicly in the meanwhile if that’ll get the job done.

While certainly an admirable goal, sadly the reality rarely meshes well with such goals. One may be lucky to have a few groups join in altruistically, but any others may be looking for, as was said before, the best place to sheathe a dagger.

While I doubt everyone in my organization does…I can certainly agree with the sentiment. Also no daggers in the back…I at least know you well enough to stab you while looking you in the eyes if it came to that, but hopefully it never will.
