Asset Safety Isn't "EVE" Enough (But It Could Be)

Asset Safety isn’t going anywhere. We should just accept that. However, in its current form it stands in stark contrast to Eve’s overall unforgiving reputation.

Asset Safety just isn’t very “EVE”.

But it could be. If players could interact with Asset Safety in meaningful ways, besides, “OK gimme my stuff back, K Thx.”, it could be made VERY “Eve”.

Imagine this. A Fortizar is destroyed. The contents of the player/corp hangers are moved to “Asset Safety” and its value calculated. For simplicities sake, the value is 100 Billion ISK. The current Asset Recovery Fee is 15%.(Subject to change  ) So the “fee” in this situation would total 15 Billion ISK spread across all associated Asset Safety Wraps.

Now, forget about the 100 Billion ISK value. Focus on the 15% Recovery Fees totaling 15 Billion ISK, that is what is up for grabs.

When the structure explodes 10 Asset Safety Containers are jettisoned and scattered around the solar system. These Containers would have to be scanned down. They could be scan-able immediately or cloak and have a timer associated with de-cloaking. These containers have nothing in them, in fact, they aren’t actual containers. They are simply a redeemable “token”. They are also large, like freaking huge, like the Faction Capital BPC containers that drop from Pirate Sotiyo’s.

Each one of these 10 Asset Safety Containers is worth 10% of that 15 Billion ISK or 1.5 Billion ISK each. These Containers can be traded, contracted, trashed, etc. and are subject to normal loot drop mechanics when inside a ship that is destroyed.

For everyone that has assets locked in that structure’s Asset Safety, each container represents a reduction in their Asset Recovery Fee by 10%.

For the Attacker (or anyone that happens to escape with the container) each container represents 10% of the Asset Recovery Fee in actual ISK.

Whoever redeems the Asset Safety Container to an Upwell Agent is given a choice.

A. You assist Upwell with asset recovery and as a reward the Asset Recovery Fees for all Asset Safety Wraps associated with that structure are reduced by 10%.

B. You are ransoming the Asset Safety Container and Upwell pays you 1.5 billion ISK for its return and you pocket it, give it to your corp/alliance, or whatever.

Any Asset Safety Container not recovered from space in a certain timeframe will simply de-spawn (recovered by Upwell normally) and is removed from play with no rewards or changes to Recovery Fees.

Any recovered Asset Safety Container not redeemed with an Upwell agent in 5 days is written off by Upwell and becomes worthless with no rewards or changes to Recovery Fees.

There are so many different ways this plays out. Additional fights could break out around these containers. One entity could attempt to destroy the containers to deny them to the other. A dishonest or unhappy corp member could simply take the ISK for themselves and leave their comrades out to dry. This could become a new career in Eve, hanging around like vultures while two entities slug it out over a structure.

This works even better with upcoming changes related to Asset Recovery fees incurred while simply moving items between structures in the same system. If a group knows they’re going to lose their structure they are still going to eat the Recovery Fee to evacuate. Maybe now they might be more inclined to fight it out or put assets at risk moving it manually between structures. My proposal would offer an additional option. “We let them kill the structure but we are standing by with scanners and haulers in an attempt to remove the fee (or reduce it to a less painful degree).” The attacker could anticipate this and smaller skirmishes could break out throughout the solar system in a attempt to recover these containers.

Sounds like all win to me.

TL;DR Asset Safety Recovery Fee is currently 15%. Let us fight over/backstab/get creative with that 15% via scan-able Asset Safety Containers that Jettison throughout the solar system upon structure loss. For defenders these containers represent a possible 100% reduction in Asset Recovery Fees. For the Attacker, or any player for that matter, these Containers represent cold hard ISK.

Thanks for reading. Fly Safe.

Just go shoot structures in wormholes if you want loot pinatas.

Id rather keep fighting against, as you mentioned, the very UN-EVE like existence of asset safety. The word ‘safety’ makes me flinch just typing it.

sigh…

Thanks for taking to time to read beyond the title.

No loot drops with this plan.

I understand the “why” behind asset safety. I don’t think turning structures into 100% loot pinatas is a good idea. I also don’t think partial loot pinatas is an answer either. How do you RNG billions worth of loot belonging to dozens or hundreds of nerds. The loot fairy could potentially devastate one or two players while others might be slightly inconvenienced.

I just thought it would be nice to have an asset safety mechanic that players could interact with that was still in keeping with what CCP is trying to accomplish and also in keeping with Eve’s reputation.

There is a lot room for interesting gameplay in between 100% loot drop and 100% asset safety.

Out of curiosity, have you considered the reason they put asset safety into existence in the first place?
