AstroForge of California, US has started astro mining operations. I see careers listed on their webpage. Maybe in the future they will have larger manned spacecraft? Currently they have sent a robotic miner called Odin to seek an asteroid and harvest a few grams of rare minerals. While that seems like very little, the scant amount of minerals collected could be worth over $100,000 USD. Maybe your sons and daughters will be up there in ships harvesting ore in the near future?
I found this site a very interesting read.

Well if they can do it with drones / robots / automated equipment then probably safer, cheaper, easier to do it without living crew, especially as they have to be replaced every once in a while due to the health effects.
However maybe fully automated is not feasible or even possible or at least live crew could still be beneficial or even greatly boost efficiency so who knows.
Either way interesting to see this development and whether they succeed in their effort or if some other company will get ahead of them later on.

The article on their site says they lost contact with Odin when he passed the moon, but remain hopeful they can reconnect. Meanwhile they are planning to launch their next robominer in the near future. Hope it has bigger ears.
Have fun!
Maybe a moondog thought it’s a chew toy.
