Today I logged into the game and was introduced to this new experimental feature where Aura becomes an AI assistant inside EVE(cool af btw).
At first glance, it seems like a great idea. New players could ask questions directly in-game instead of asking chatgpt, making the experience much more immersive.
Unfortunately, the first thing I discovered is that Aura does not respond in my native language, Portuguese[Brazil].
This is not a matter of poor translations or occasional mistakes. It appears that Aura simply refuses to interact in Portuguese altogether.
That is disappointing, especially considering that EVE Online promotes itself as a global game. We are in 2026, and even small AI projects can communicate in dozens of languages. The technology already exists. This is not a limitation of AI; it is a limitation that was chosen.
What makes this even more frustrating is that an AI assistant is probably one of the easiest ways to make a game more accessible to international communities. Instead, players who do not speak English are greeted with an error message.
The Brazilian community alone contains many players who love EVE Online but struggle with English. An AI assistant capable of speaking their language could help them learn the game, understand mechanics, and participate more comfortably. That seems like a far more valuable use of AI than restricting it to a small portion of the player base.
I understand that Aura is an experimental feature, and I hope this is simply a temporary limitation. However, it is difficult not to question the priorities behind an AI assistant that cannot communicate with thousands of potential users in their own language.
For years, players have asked for better localization and language support. Now EVE has integrated AI directly into the game, yet the most basic use case remains missing.
A global game deserves an AI that can speak to the world.
