Booster Stabilizers for Enhanced Shelf-Life

A stabilizer to extend the shelflife of time-limited boosters would be helpful. An added cost is reasonable. If not a booster stabilizer then some some elaborate, specialized storage system we can build or purchase to allow us to store them with either extended or indefinite shelflife. Might even be reasonable to create a neuro-based skill (or science) to make it appropriately difficult.

The regular boosters have no expiration date.

Only the free boosters you get from events have a time limit so that people cannot hoard these freebies and use them forever.

The time limit exists for a reason, and while I don’t yet see why this time limit needs to be extended, I definitely don’t see why a ‘stabilizer’ should be added to do so instead of just extending the temporary boosters by some months by default.

We all know the regular boosters have no expiration and the event boosters are time limited.

To your point: So we only hoard the regular boosters? Understood.

Is your argument based on game balance? Waste of programmer time? Effect on overall economy or marginalizing other game items like Master at Arms CA’s?

Curious.

Balance will likely have a large part to play, if the boosters only exist for a short time then you can mostly ignore any spikes in power that a ship or fit gets as its lifetime is limited, making the boosters last longer and be harder to get means having to potentially rebalance things around the assumption people might have them which might make the ship not great without them

There is also the fact they are meant as a nice timed incentive to get people to earn and then use them instead of just holding on to them

Pretty much, yeah. Time-limited boosters are the ones you get for free from Fenris. If you could hoard them, there would be no motivation for players to buy boosters sold on the market by other players. EVE’s economy is centralized on player-made items, and not NPC-FC-generated free items. Free boosters with no expiration date would collapse that market. So yeah, you’re only meant to hoard normal boosters sold by players.

The use-it-or-lose-it nature of event boosters is very obviously a deliberate decision and if they didn’t want them to work that way, it would make more sense to simply make them not work that way instead of implementing an elaborate mechanism to bypass the clear design intent.
