No one bumps a freighter in defence, and by no one I mean 0.01% of the time.
Welcome to most forms of PVP
DST might be cloaked. If the player actually fitted a cloak of the correct kind and fitted an MWD of the correct kind, so that’s like just a handful of them. On top of that they need to be paying attention, not AFK on AP and know what they are doing so that lowers it even more.
No worries, you’re spot on. Anyone claiming that Cenotaphs are somehow an issue when it comes to ganking is having delusions only seen in some posters who shall not be named but we haven’t seen in a very long time. It might be done as a proof of concept and that’s about it.
Very few, especiallly through 0.5/0.6 sec pipes. Majority of freighter pilots just autopilot it from start to finish and they have exactly 1.8b cargo. Hundreds of these pass Sivala every day. However, the higher the security status the more often players carry this much because until now it was 99% safe to do so. You need about 50 catalysts to gank a 3x expanded freighter in 0.9/1.0 and it must be pulled for at least half of them. Nobody can field that many it requires multiple gankers to cooperate, and abandon their own activities for something that won’t even be worth the time if the loot is going to be split between 5 players. So even when we in Novus did that, we did that only for 3 hours of a single day in a week. And you also need to be on the grid, ie. in local so everyone will see 50 red players in Perimeter and the word will spread. With cenotaphs you can do it alone whole day every day in any system, pulled or not and you don’t have to be in local, you willbe there with cloaked bumping machariel which can also scan the target himself, once you confirm it is worth to kill you log in the gank toons logged off at the gate or safe near gate. So nobody will even see it coming.
Well yes. For us gankers it is good. Very good. But we are not allowed to have nice things, so I expect a nerf soon.
It is overpowered compared to current options is what I am saying.
Whatever, it will still fail if you bump the freighter.
I thought you were talking about ganker’s DSTs they use to loot their target. Which made no sense to me as how it is counterplay to getting your freighter ganked, but then your post made no sense from the beginning. More below.
WTF??? Do you even read my posts at all? This is exactly what I wrote to be the counterplay to get your freighter ganked. You bump the freighter, ie. their target.
Then you came here to claim it won’t work and at the same time you claim it works on DST or Rattlesnake. This is a thread about freighter ganking.
Yes I know. But that counterplay exists. Obviously it is just better to web yourself and prevent yourself to get caught, but if that freighter is already caught, this works to save it and as a bonus gankers loses their ships for nothing.
I meant ganker’s DST on the grid prepared to loot the target.
Again I specified two possible counterplays to stop the typical freighter gank. That the victims or antigankers are not using them matters how? Those options do exists and works, but cenotaphs are immune to them. You can bump the freighter wherever you want, they just mwd to it shoot once and they are done. Since they need to shoot once just like Tornado, then ECM is useless too. Trying to anti-gank gank them with Tornado will also fail because they will be moving with mwd. So once that freighter gets bumped, he is done for.
“Whatever” isn’t really a strong argument. Especially not if the cold hard numbers in the game doesn’t back it up. You cannot defensively bump a freighter out of a ganker’s squad range, period. It’s way too heavy and won’t accelerate hard enough to gain enough distance before it dies. Not against Catalysts (because some ganking fits do have an AB and some squads bring multiple webs), not against BCs because they have enough Range and Firepower to punch through the HP long before the Freighter has gained enough distance.
Sure, becaus there it actually does work because… mass. Those get accelerated to several thousand m/s from well-placed bump, which means it will leave weapon range of the gankers extremely quickly. And I know it because I have done it. It’s not theory, I saved DSTs, Marauders and FactionBS in Uedama just for the lulz. Tried that on a Freighter, no way… you know why? Because it doesn’t get bumped as hard as a lighter ship. Game mechanics, know them!
Cenotaph ganking isn’t theory, it’s actively being done by a small handful of gankers. I’m acutely aware of its weaknesses and viable counters because other than the first gank using Cenotaphs back in January, I’m the person the started using it last week, spurring other gankers to test the method.
I’m not in the business of educating others on how to counter me. Gankers have had to adapt many times throughout the years, and sometimes anti-gankers adapt with them.. rather slowly or poorly I’ll add… but this does have viable weaknesses and counters.
It’s so niche and costly it’s not ever going to cause a dent in ganking as a whole. As said, great as a proof of concept and I’m sure some people will specialise in it for the lulz or because it opens up specific options.
On the whole it’s not going to affect anything that would require changes or drama posting.
No doubt about that, sure if you find the right target, sacrificing 3 Cenos is worth it if the drop is high enough.
Digging a bit deeper I was actually able to find a handful of killmails. None of which seem to indicate a “problem”. And if it gets out of hand, CCP will simply fix it by stopping the DOT once CONCORD arrives or completely disable the Breacher Pods in HS. -_-
I agree. It is really expensive and not to mention producing them is much more annoying than building Talos / Oracle. There’s a pretty limited stock of them that are reasonably priced.
I personally happen to be lucky enough to have a corp mate that does a good job at controlling the Cenotaph and Tholos market, and he sells them to me at around 660m per Cenotaph.
I agree, but you know there’s people out there that see something new being theorycrafted and having fun with it, and they immediately want to complain despite fully understanding how it works in the ecosystem of ganking, much less understand enough to know its weaknesses.
This is exactly it. Using Cenos requires a very specific target, unless you’re not in the ganking for profit business… So it’s not like you’re going to see these being used to exterminate every 3x expanded freighter carrying even 3b. This is a ship you want to use when you want to kill a whale, and even then it’s not as justifiable to use in lower sec systems.
Yeah I think what will happen is it’ll get nerfed eventually. I’ve already been reported for cheating once using 3 cenos to gank a target, but he didn’t understand how they worked. When I tried to explain it him he just kept spamming me with insults and rl threats and said he was sending a petition to CCP. So yeah the unhinged people out there gonna whine.
