You saw my comment about mindless drivel, yes?
I did, and also i saw you type that rather try and improve things in the group, you’d rather go off an be by yourself.
Well, sometimes you can’t fight city hall…
This topic is very multi-faceted and individual, and I don’t think it’s possible to generalize that just because somebody multiboxes, that that means he is insular or less social.
I trust within a heart beat, if it ‘‘feels’’ right to me. It’s just that there is a very small number of people I want to associate with. I’m very much not antisocial at all, while also not being social. I prefer one-on-one interaction (in real life, and online), and most of the fun I’ve had in EVE has been with just me and one of my buddies hanging out together. The few people I do like, I’m very social with, and want to spend a lot of time together. It all depends on who it is on the other end of the line.
I literally don’t use any of those outside FB, and FB I only use for selling stuff, because it’s rather convenient.
I agree that there is a contingency of people like that. Especially among young people, but also some older guys. And the current ‘‘social’’ media and online programs contribute to that. These programs create an illusion as if online interaction was a real human interaction, whereas it is not. I don’t know what would be the ‘‘cure’’ for this ‘‘disease’’. You have to have experienced the thrill of real connection with another person, to snap out of such a state.
The real human interaction and connection is the best thing in this life. Nothing comes even close to it, no material substance, no monetary privilege.
I know you’re talking more specifically about EVE, whereas I am talking in general terms about life. The problem with EVE in this regard is that at the end of the day it’s an online environment. You don’t see the person you’re playing with and that is a problem. I believe events like Fanfest, and some other get-togethers Fenris organizes (EVE Vegas, EVE Down Under) help to mitigate this and make players more social and invested in the community.
But in the end, you’re not gonna have effect on that guy who doesn’t wanna talk to anybody – in real life or online – and just hides himself away in his room not open to human interaction. That is a psychological problem, and not due to ‘‘channel settings’’ in the game, or the multiboxing opportunities.
