In all honesty, I used to run 5 accounts and have had a total of about 15 characters. 4 of those accounts have been mothballed since 2012, 1 character which I used to post with was sold in 2012, Jonah is my main and the one I consistently post on the forums with, my other 2 characters on this account have 5 posts between them.

Your ‘generally accepting of eve being a pvp game’ is to be argued as long as ONE is arguing against it…

That’s fair enough, people tend to put their own spin on things.
In my view PvP in highsec is incredibly broken. It’s very easy and very low risk to aggress someone who is not interested in fighting back and means that in most situations nullsec is lower risk than highsec with a higher reward. I tend to think that a lot of the pro easy-PvP people focus on the benefits PvE players get from being in highsec but ignore those benefits for PvP players.
In my experience it’s also incredibly easy to avoid, that said this statement mostly applies to more experienced players.
It also seems that whenever the discussion of balancing PvP combat in highsec comes up the immediate response is that nothing should change because “EVE is a PvP game”, which wildly misrepresents the definition of PvP and fundamentally misunderstands the origins of the concept of EVE.
I’m not against change per se, I am against change that I see as pandering to those that can’t be bothered to put some thought and effort into how they play, or refuse to learn from their mistakes.

Oh, sorry, I was replying mostly to the OP I guess the conversation has evolved since then.
The gameplay most negatively impacted by the removal of PvP in highsec would be mining and haulers. Without the threat of ganks there is no need to tank, watch directional scan, or take any precaution.
In fact, a world without ganks is a world without the need for ship fits or variety at all in these game-play. The ONLY viable fit is maximum yield, all other options are foolishness.
The nature of the rules makes the situation a math problem for the attacker, his operation a business. While some may kill for funzies, most of the most important ones do so for a profit. Learn their patterns, learn the rules they must abide by, and ensure that the person they gank is someone else, preferably your competition.
I recommend treating gankers as weather, you can’t be mad at it, you just have to prepare for it.

How this can be realized is a matter of discussion but that it is and works in many other games is a sole fact…
PVP just in designated zones(low and null in this case) would STILL let 2/3 of the server be a pvp zone…but that’s not enough for you eh?
