See if its xennials making those decisions, then it would be more gen x style of suck it up buttercup.
Whose veldspar do I need to buff to get said Tetris mini-game?
Sure, but remember that its PA that claims they are losing money, not CCP, as in CCP isn’t making enough money to offset the large sum they paid for the company in the first place
Also, i think you’re missing the “loss for the period” part that says they are down 19 mil
Thank you for digging this up. I have contended that CCP is not unprofitable that it has made a profit. That as someone further up has stated. Games get bought and sold all the time.
Good job in bringing this to the forums for a little reality check.
Moan… Why do you make me think? The game was so much eaiser when you could wd the null blks and talk ■■■■ in local!
A more realistic approach would be nice. But the problem is how do you balance the game, give free secure space that can’t F’up the economy? In all my yrs on the forums, never mind what Reddit says, no one has come up with a viable solution. You can’t drive out the smaller corps as apparently that attracted a number of players. Null should be more balanced and not be able to rule through their CC’s. I know…Thats is what keeps the game afloat, but it should never have come to this.
CCP is stuck, the players are stuck. (or quit/alpha)
Well this and other things can also be reconsidered when making a 2.0 version but my post (and the realistic approach
) was about physics specifically.
As for the subject you talk about, I’m pretty sure a competent expert can do balancing, the problem is CCP has no such people who can do it and they are not willing to cough up some friction of their profits to hire one or oh the horror an entire team of experts.
Once upon a time an economics expert was working for CCP but that was discontinued after a while.

Their happy with the numbers. The lights stay on.
I’m not sure this is entirely accurate, I do wonder whether CCP has attempted to make eve more suitable for the masses.
EvE Online was very much a niche space based experience, that unfortunately doesn’t seem to as be profitable anymore and game changes have been made to make it more suitable for the general public.
For example:
- More comprehensive and friendly tutorials that hold the players hand for a substantial time period after they enter the game world.
- Restrictions to player versus player opportunities before the player becomes experienced by keeping new player systems and missions / storyline off limits and strongly discouraging new players from disengaging their “green” safety.
- A watering down of the lore and the backstory so that CCP doesn’t cause offence to a wide variety of people.
- A clampdown on use of offensive language and behaviour that might offend at all.
- A high security that is very friendly to those who are starting out or who don’t have much.
- A customer support base that has reimbursed losses when the player might have been at fault but didn’t understand what was happening.
- Forced rookie support channels for thirty days after entering eve.
- Extensive warnings that you’re about to do something dangerous, you cannot get into the abyss or null security without reading multiple warnings explaining that you’re going to die and you should turn back now.
They’re just trying to be more attractive to more people by softening eve up a little. Cold and dark is what appeals to most of us, but it’s not hugely attractive to the general public.
When you first enter an 0.9, Aura should freak out that this is “suicide” and attempt to mutiny, the only way to continue is to install your new AI companion: Rex the lowsec cyberpirate.
They also do shitty things that I feel hurt the game, even though the opposite is intended.
Like when you spin up an alt and you see the “free gifts” for like staying logged in for 90 minutes, and then warning the player that they lose these items if they quit now.
It is concentrated cringe, and does not entice the player to stay.
Gripping content immediately, would make them stay, so put that in.
The freebies if you stay pls doesn’t work for the following reasons:
1: It looks desperate, it makes new players feel like you’re desperate.
2: The free gifts mean nothing to the player as they don’t yet know the game, so they don’t know if these items are good or ■■■■ or useful or if this 1 million ISK is enough to buy anything with etc.
3: When whatever the gift did, if the player used it, is finite and the player now doesn’t have it, and have no frame of reference for how to get another or how long that takes.
Instead, they should have a new tutorial which puts them in some form of battle immediately, with multiple ships, and some form of instructions as to who to target, when, and how to kill them. They can be NPCs and it can all be on-rails with nerfed damage to ensure they survive, but they don’t know that while they’re pew pewing.
The tutorial then progresses in like fashion, and introduces other things over time like ewar items, skirmishes in lower security systems etc.
tl;dd: The onboarding is a big problem.
Very true in this game by the emergence of feminine ship skins… We aren’t allowed to talk about their clear motivation for doing it… It’s just another sign that this game is in the wrong hands…
OK this old boomer will bite, What in the wide world of sports is feminine ship skins.
It’s a kind of SKIN that makes a ship appear to have no armor or very little and yet is armed up to it’s teeth with sharp edges and sh*t
takes all of your ISK, your ship and your Slaver Hound when you disengage from the combat encounter with it.
Alrighty then.
lol, I’m not sure if the R&D has resulted in much of anything over the years perhaps the money would be better spent in other places.
I think the money is being spent on improvements to the underlying core engine. I’d say that’s research and development well spent.
Hmmm, I would think the R&D largely consists of finance for Eve Frontier, Echoes, Vanguard and galaxy quest. It’s not clear what is spent on the development for Eve online. It would be interesting to drill down a bit more and see what is allocated where.
Well, if you talk to the development team, I think they’ll tell you that they are making improvements to the engine, which is what runs the game. So maybe you don’t see the changes, but they are being made, and they do make a substantial difference in the longterm. I am of the opinion that this kind of longterm investment is more valuable than ‘new features’. Without upgrades, the engine will not be able to handle those new features, so it’s wise to focus on a strong foundation.
I think CCP is heading in the right direction, focusing on what actually matters, and ignoring the unreasonable demands of the players.
