Claustrophobia (new character window feedback)

There is no need for stretching the portrait. It should just be the square one, top-aligned, next to the name. That would look more consistent, and so much better.

I can see and fully understand what you are saying about the change.

However to play Devil’s Advocate here, anyone clicking on my bio is probably going to click the portrait and see the full image. Come to think of it, anyone clicking the image, is probably creepy enough to click the full 3D body button. If it becomes an issue for me in the future, I can just pull back the camera…

@Gerard_Amatin you seem to be very observant to notice the slight loss of pixel width. I personally would like it, if they allowed us to self edit our character portraits as in Black Desert. The game drops my character’s headshots into Documents\Black Desert\FaceTexture folder as bitmaps. I can then enhance them on my end. No one else will see the changes but me, but I do like the options.

Have fun!

Maybe others do, but I rarely open the full portrait of character windows.

For many years the character window itself was sufficient to see someone’s full portrait, albeit at lower resolution.

Loss of pixel width becomes more noticeable when you’ve spent a lot of fun time updating character portraits and carefully placing the character and it’s details in the full square we have.

See for example the picture I showed earlier of an alt wearing a suit with a destroyer logo that I clearly placed well within the screen in my own picture.

And then FC’s new awful character window cropping cuts off essential portrait details like that. :face_exhaling:

Or see Aiko’s prominent ponytail, a big part of her image’s most recognizable features and visible on alliance logos in high sec space - cut off and removed in her own character window.

It’s ridiculous.

If the game wants us to make square portraits it should not just start cutting sizeable parts off for no good reason at all.

I agree. In fact, I wonder who bothered to do this in the first place? Secondly, when they took their artwork to the department head, who gave this the greenlight without any further notice? If I were their employer, I know, who I would want to talk with Monday morning after reading this thread.

Obviously too much time on their hands.

Have fun!

Dont change your avatars to compensate for this unwanted cropping change. They will just keep cutting it down the more you pull the camera away.

A more realistic scenario: an idealistic intern was hired at CCP (named thus back then) who had invented their own system for character info and just coded it in because it was the best thing to happen to the internet in the past 20 years and he was gonna change the world with it. Since this is a minor aspect of the game nobody at CCP bothered to check how it interacted with the rest of the code of their game. It was probably tagged as ‘minor change’ and is now live and no-one knows how bad it really is other than people who actually play the game.

Gotta say I agree 100% and you’re probably correct..

Should also include that a lot of these little changes are done to justify their employment, as in ‘Yeah, for this quarter I did this, added that, etc..’

Crazy they still haven’t fixed or even acknowledged this:

It can’t be difficult, changing like one number to increase the spacing.

I have to leave a wide strip on the right side, or it clips my nose off.

My ear is gone too.

I’d say contact the CSM, they don’t seem to do anything, but this seems like one of those things CCP should fix. It’s kind of ridiculous having a square portrait that gets squeezed into an increasingly narrow rectangle. If they insist on dynamic resizing, they should at least keep the original square shape.

As FCCP doesn’t seem to read the forum, hopefully some of them read reddit:

I like that - FCCP.

Liked your reddit post and commented. Lets hope it dawns on these folks to revert this unwanted adjustment.

If only CCP had a focus group, so that they could hear player feedback…

This forum and many of its members are exactly the reasons why that will never happen…or at least not in the immediate future.

One can always hope…
