Anyone else noticed this increasing? Back in the day, you used to get emails and communication about in-game politics. The game is now littered with cash grabs everywhere, buy skins, buy skillpoints, buy plex, list goes on.
The whole approach is making the game feel cheap, I almost can’t take it serious anymore, feels like a cheap mobile game. How long until we get in game ads?
You know, every email system on the planet gives you the ability to filter your emails. Takes about 5 minutes to setup a filter dumping all advertising that makes it through the spam filters into a trash folder.
Basically you have two options. Either buy more from CCP so they don’t have to advertise as hard to keep the doors open, or deal with the ads. Whining on the forums about it does nothing.
Yeah I dislike spam but I will leave them cos they do have the odd pack that comes with X days omega that works out cheaper than subscription. I look out for those. If they come with skins I just make sure I’m sitting in Jita when I redeem, to dump the skins on the market and go home.
@Your_Ex-Girlfriend is right. Every email client comes with management tools. Use them.
If you’re up to date with your inbox (I know that not everybody does this), it’s simple to delete mails as you go. I only leave the pending stuff in there; everything else has a dedicated folder.
Most of what CCP sends is relevant to me, even if I don’t want it at the time. There are far worse offenders out there!
I have this argument with my wife. Deleting emails is a waste of time. It is like recording the news. You will never catch up. Just let them come and Sweep the egregious dogshit periodically. No need to micromanage.
I think it’s just a bit of human psycho-diversity.
At work, I always kept a near-empty desk. At home, I don’t have anything at all on most surfaces.
My own wife loved to collect small figurines, mini model cottages, and the like. I was forever accidentally knocking them off their shelves, etc. We agreed to have designated spaces for her stuff - and for my lack of it!
Her PC desktop was completely filled with shortcuts; mine has a column and a half of folders down one side. Psycho-diversity.
So, I’ll continue to ‘micro-manage’ my emails - because that’s the kind of guy I am. I completely understand that you (and many others) are different. Makes the world go around!
But then there’d be no market for that character’s corpse in the game. Would you want the “corpse of your ex-girlfriend”, or the “corpse of next-girlfriend”? The first is funny, the latter is creepy.
The marketing campaign for that would be more annoying than OP thinks CCP’s are.
Sometimes they take you to an unsubscribe page and you can unsubscribe.
Sometimes they take you to an unsubscribe page and you think you can unsubscribe but what you’re actually doing is informing the spammer that “Yes! This email address IS live and someone DOES read these!” so that they can ramp it up.
Sometimes they take you to an unsubscribe page and you will receive a nice fat drive-by malware download.
… it’s better to just ignore them 100% of the time.
Turn off notifications and check in periodically, or when you’re waiting for something specific.
Email management is for those privileged with an abundance of free time and sparse activity going on upstairs.
If you get a mail from CCP where they might even include your character’s name advertising new content or store stuff… they probably already know your email is legit. Stop creating problems in your head.
Click unsubscribe once, takes about 10 seconds to complete, and it’s gone forever.
