Create character "failed for some reason"

Hi!

First time playing this game after testing the trial years ago.
I’m creating a new character.
When I hit ENTER GAME it says “Compile preferences” then “Failed for some reason” and leaves me at the character creation screen.
I’ve searched this forum and online and can’t see what the issue may be.

I’d recommend trying again, and if the error persists send in a ticket via CCPs help center:
