A fair point. I was doing the quickest and easiest fix at the time, which still ended up taking more time than I like. I wanted to do something more along the lines of having one single expired accelerator item and when the accelerators âexpireâ they just simply turn into that one.
Part of the reason for this is that the accelerator item is now usable again. Another part is that it helps clean up the DB and keep things clean in the future. And lastly, it keeps the number of new items that we have to create for events down to a minimum.
Weâre not there yet and I donât have a better design for this yet, so itâs going to be as we are currently until we can devote some time to it.
It took us a while to get here, but this works a lot better than the 23 hour cooldowns of the first event. It goes back to what the easy solution was and what we could do when we had time.

I want to see about trying âcheapâ accelerators and âexpensiveâ accelerators in the same event. I might be able to sneak it into my schedule for the Yoiul Festival.

Fantastic event and canât wait for the next one. When can we expect the next one? Also, please boost Low Sec drop and spawn rates as you did this time, made for some great games of bait and switch.
That was based on Test server. My first few runs had a fourth frigate but it was when spawns and drops were messed up as CCP dragon said. It didnât 100% reflect tranq
I think your idea to eventually convert all accelerator types to a common âexpiredâ item ID seems reasonable, especially if the âexpiredâ gain some new mechanics. Why canât you simply re-enable market trading for the newly-named âexpiredâ variants? They are hanger trash until the next solution.
Some ppl in Jita are hoping to become filthy rich collecting these with the hope that a future game mechanic makes the âexpiredâ ones have more value than they do today. That might be a reason to do nothing at all, lol. (Be careful about telling us too much!)
Weâve had +12, and +15 would be âmore excitingâ but something different like double duration hasnât been tried yet, afaik. A 1% Agency bonus to active tanking (or some other statistic) would be neat b/c it would stack with all other boosters when provided by that booster slot.
The chained format was fantastic and encouraged âso close, just one more levelâ type of play, but just for personal bragging rights, because no extra reward was tied to reaching the level 5 tier of nonstop activity.
Chained format should fix complaints about unique rewards in the point system being too difficult to obtain, Iâm sure more players reached top tier rewards than in previous events. So, please consider bringing back some unique items. Iâm sure the monetization ppl were happy that completing a Headhunter SKIN set required PLEX, but I feel very left out.
By comparison, I was spamming event sites during the last Crimson Harvest and Purity events, to build a complete set of SKINâs, because a random one dropped in every site. Thatâs another way to lure engagement.
Things I liked about the Crimson Harvest
- Chained format of challenges (excellent)
- Opportunity for some PvP contesting
Things I didnât like
- Sites too easy
- Sites very predictable
- Loot (accelerator) dropped in every site, led to a glut and very fast devaluation
- Challenge rewards too easy to aquire (I was done in 4 days and didnât bother with anymore)
- Because of devaluation of accelerators there was no reason to run the sites after you had hit 400 points
Overall it was a passable event, gets a 5 out of 10, but nowhere near the engagement or longevity of the Warzone previous event.

I suppose we can. Iâm reluctant because I donât want them to clutter the market. If I put a little time into it I can set up a new market group that is separate. Maybe?
Weâre debating the exact details at the moment, but initial designs are something like:
Drop from NPC in the event site: +12 accelerator w/ 24 hour timer
Top Tier event reward: +10 accelerator w/ 7 day timer
However we would have to extend the expiration a bit more if we want to do this, but itâs possible.
This is where I would like to add a leaderboard or something like that. Designs are in conceptual phase still.
Iâm not sure what the numbers were but SKINs were purchased using PLEX specifically to sell them on the market for ISK. For them it was a speculative way of trying to get more ISK for their PLEX. I donât mind encouraging that, but as soon as we drop the item in a site or make it available through the event, it devalues it so much that it is not possible for them to do this anymore.
In any case, weâre coming up with a better doctrine on how to balance the store SKINs versus the event SKINs. I say itâs a fight, but our monetization team is generally not evil. They listen to us and we listen to them as we try to find a good balance.
I think those should be swapped, I still donât think you have grasped how much Eve Players min/max things. No-one will use a 7 day +10 if there are +12âs around.

How about:
+10/24 hour timer from drops
+15/24 or +10/for few days, from the Agency tasks? More people would do the agency for points instead buy them from the market. Also the very first CH had better loot frequency drops for hisec I think, it was not 100%. Scaling tasks were good but maybe more than 2 types? People that donât want to do the agency sites still may get their festive rewards. RW tasks were obvious bait content
Maybe if the event will be annual more unique SKINs and apparels, only obtained by event sites in actuall year?

EDIT: IMO mixing boost strength with duration is overcomplicated, and gives not much gameplay option, because both choices are not equal, the better boost is superior over longer duration.
Would recommend to stick to the old version from 2015: 10/24h as frequent drop, 12/24h as special rare reward. Optional make the 12 lasting longer to make it even more valuable.
Market group sounds cool. But, you might want to hold off until purely speculative plans to add functionality to Expired variants are decided and announced. People who read these forums have a market advantage.
We have various Lore sources for Accelerators: Rogue Swarm (unique icon), Crimson Harvest, others. Note that in your first pass to Expire these, the Rogue Swarm variant lost its unique name, it would be cool (if you want to preserve the lore history) to restore the words âRogue Swarmâ to that item. Just add the word âExpiredâ to the front of original names.
Now that we have a regularly scheduled Event System, It would be easier (less item clutter), to have only one Agency-branded accelerator item going forward, with active and not-active variants. You could say that Blood Raiders (and others) made the original âtechnology breakthroughsâ but the mysterious Agency has taken over or further optimized mass production, Capsuleers doing past Events helped shut down Pirate sources.
The proposed 7 day (14 days with Biology 5?) would be an awesome final reward, if the work required and point system is similar to the most recent event, because I was able to get the top tier reward this time, lol.
I envision we could plug this in on the last day before Accelerator expiration, and get all those extra days of accelerated training. +12 / 24h is cool during the event, and makes market traders happy, but would not be as useful on the last day before Accelerator expiration.
This sounds like fun, if no in-game reward is tied to it, just bragging rights. I think an in-game reward for top score is not necessary. In a past event the top 5 were recognized at the end, and the amount of time they were putting in was⌠did they sleep at all? Ouch.
CCP tries all kinds of experiments and thatâs cool. I felt like monetization was creeping into my regular gameplay, but oh well, Iâm just not going to have a complete SKIN set from this event. I didnât even approach having a partial set because they were rare drops. Which encourages some market activity, lol. You devalued the Cold Iron set, lol, with the re-issue. (Slightly. It seemed like an even rarer drop.)
I think SKINâs and monetization is doing fine on their own outside of âeventsâ with new and interesting art dropping practically every week. The players who want cool new stuff for ISK conversion should know which announcements to follow, the dropping of so many âfreeâ SKINs has by now exposed every player to these options.

Theyâd have to change how accelerators expire, or you would plug in as many as you could afford, during the event. Some players would stack up years of +10 attributes.
Simplification: 1 dial changes strength of boost, 1 dial changes duration. True, changing both at the same time makes it hard to compare the 2 new products however someone has figured it out:
Correct. Which is why +10/7D is valuable as a one-per-person reward and should not be compared as a âeither/orâ reward to the +12/1D version.

same. Having to log each alt once every two days just to consume accel is meh.
To me, that is the next improvement to do, this event brought many improvements over the previous ones
Improvements on this event
I made several events and this one feels really better to me.
- Chain quests are good. You donât need to log on every day to maximize your gain. Log on whenever you want.
- Multiple activities quests are good too. It simply adds in value to most activities you do. No more âchain complete 220 shipyardsâ
- fights in sites were present and that led me to nice PVP situations.
Things that could be improved
Of course is was not perfect, here is my list of things that could make it better :
- Was lacking exploration-related quests IMO (close a wh, complete a ded site, open a sleeper cache, sniff some gas). No PVP because this is gameable in this game of alts.
- The reward for the event completion were crap. You already got them when doing the sites.
- The completion rate was too high. Completed the event to something like 1000 points on three alts without even doing sites, just mining in HS or doing anoms. Since the rewards was so low it was actually balanced, but longer completion and better rewards would give more incentive to actually play the event.
- time-to-time the event sites should reward more points than the other activities. Why would I bother searching for a site when I can simply orbit a rock and get more event points ?
- maybe the sites were too hard for beginners. I had hard times killing the frigs in my vigilant(needed two shots in null), alphas could take like an hour to complete a site. and that is, if nobody came in to alpha the bc (which I did)
- I think splitting the sites in several size-limited sites (limited for frigs, minor for destroyers, regular for cruisers, you can guess the two other ones) WITHOUT modifying the spawn inside would allow people with different ships to have a chance. I always got the can in my alpha-raven fit , and only lost 3 cans to a paladin and 2 to other people when running in my vigilant - sebo and tractor where useful here.
There is no maybe, they were. Considering most beginners are still in a Frigate or Destroyer the full Blood Raider Gauntlet was not something they could handle alone. For the duration of the event in Rookie Help we were answering âcan I do the Blood Raider sites in my Rifter?â with a firm no. Thatâs when we werenât explaining to the ones who didnât ask before trying that they could get a new ship by docking their Pod at a Station.
Having said that, should they be able to? As a 3 month old, I was able to solo them in my Gnosis. Where do you draw the canât do / can do line? Should you be able to install the game and 5 minutes later complete a Blood Raider site?
Maybe they should have scaled more, so that a far easier version with lesser rewards could be found in 1.0 space, or something along the lines of what you suggest here:
Keep in mind I only give my feedbacks on the event, thatâs CCPâs jobs to decide the great lines.
Since CCP wants to keep new players playing, even for free, they should be able to do those sites, or at least participate in the event. I can imagine several possibilities to do so:
- easier site for lesser rewards
- sites requiring teamplay, like some cosmos sites or those drug manufacturing skillbooks sites
- allow new players to ninja steal a part of the loot, like several cans in a site and they belong the one who kills the bc but another one spawns @50km and is available for anyone
I donât know, I just feel like the sites may have been a bit too harsh for new players, especially considering the poor loot. Other players may have better idea than mine
