left my stuff in a personal citadel like i have the last two times i took a break. figured the cost of the citadels/asset safety reclamation was worth the risk.
super cool to learn two days too late that the decade’s worth of stuff i accumulated was wiped without any notice being provided to me just because i took a break at the wrong time. totally feeling motivated to return for a year like the last two times i left.
rip 9 years of stuff across 3 accounts i guess, nothing says engaging gameplay like throwing all the unfortunate randos in the wrong place at the wrong time under the bus in favor of a bunch of manlets abusing the test server ahead of time though am i right
dont fly what you cant afford to lose. also apparently dont even own what you cant afford to lose or even have money at all because even fundamental game mechanics are now subject to arbitrary change. cant wait until the new MEGA WALLET SIPHON 9000 is introduced in a year or two so we can drain other people’s wallets too. maybe a SUPER SPOOKY SKILL SIPHON to take their skillpoints too, not like they need them anymore right
I am sorry this happened to you. I love the game, but am concerned about the impact this change had on people in your position. Was the stuff you had irreplaceable, or would isk make you feel whole?
Nope. You lost the stuff because you stopped paying attention to it. If you really cared you would have kept up with EVE news and had plenty of time to save it. Maybe next time you should be smart enough to understand the fact that there is always a risk that game mechanics will change in an unfavorable way while you are away from a game.
in favor of a bunch of manlets abusing the test server ahead of time though am i right
You claim to have played EVE for 9 years but you’re still whining and crying about “manlets” who dared to take every advantage they could get their hands on and turn it into ISK? EVE, the game of scamming and murder and general ruthless sociopathy?
I’ve read everything in this thread, and honestly, your attitude absolutely stinks. Never have I read so much abhorrent, cynical, distasteful dribble in my life.
I’m sorry to hear its affected you that bad Rhydic, sounds like you might of finally won at eve, though eh.
You must have lived an incredibly sheltered and privileged life if “your imaginary internet spaceships exploded because you didn’t pay attention to them, deal with it” is the worst thing you’ve ever heard.
probably 10 figures worth of lost stuff. not everything i owned but a decade’s worth of sentimentality unnecessarily gone and far more than i have the liquid assets to replace. a little too soul crushing to be worth the trouble now
thanks for the super epic hot takes merin, clearly your (and ccp’s) wisdom and experience far exceed mine. test server meta gameplay is clearly the ultimate form of gaming. obviously the best decision when the new moon mining system was implemented was to use the same resource seed on both the real server and test server so that all the big boiz could instantly claim anything worthwhile the moment the patch went live. i wonder why they used different seeds??? how silly.
definitely just a baseless claim that this character is 9 years old btw
Finally you got something right: it’s unnecessarily gone. If you cared that much about the stuff you could have paid attention to EVE news and had plenty of time to save it.
test server meta gameplay is clearly the ultimate form of gaming.
I never said it was. But it’s how EVE works, if there’s something to exploit to gain an advantage and it isn’t banned by CCP people will do it. Whining and crying about “manlets” using the test server to discover that you had vulnerable loot is nothing but ignorance of how EVE works.
As for your seed comparison, what would you have expected CCP to do in this situation? Spend a bunch of time implementing a way to hide or randomize the contents of all player structures on the test server so nobody could gain intel there? And to spend that time and effort to protect the assets of people who aren’t paying customers and may never return to EVE? That is not realistic at all.
definitely just a baseless claim that this character is 9 years old btw
The character may be 9 years old. Your knowledge of how EVE works seems more comparable to a week-old newbie who thinks that EVE is going to be WoW in space.
While I am normally on the side of this argument, in this case I would say that you know long enough in advanced to get your affairs in order. This is not an absolute loss of asset safety, this is a loss under very specific set of conditions. If a person is going to be deployed, they shouldn’t have their structure unfueled. If their friends lose ground, that has always lead to “lost” of assets in the old days of station lockouts.
If anything this is a restoration to an order we once had, and then lost. There are ways to play to keep your things safe, there are way to play that put your stuff at various forms of risk. Player structures are not on the same risk/reward level as Stations. By putting your things in there and leaving them unattended, you leave yourself open. There is a notification within 48 hours of it happening to a structure you have things in.
What do we say to the people who left stuff, having been told that it was safe, who come back much later and find that the rules have changed and their stuff is now other peoples loot.
Oh and yes, I know, in Eve nothing is truly safe. But I am just putting that out there.
“Should have paid attention to EVE news if you cared about that stuff”. If you walk away from a game and stop following it then you accept the possibility that the game might change in catastrophic ways while you are gone and can’t do anything about it. If this is unacceptable then don’t cut yourself off.
Players takes weeks off all the time, to think all players would know about a Forsaken fortress rules is incorrect.
The last station I was in that was destroyed in high sec, gave me all my items back. A casual player like me would think the same of Forsaken Fortress.
This sounds like one of those mistakes someone at the top made, that needs to be fixed.
I lost over 100bill worth of ships and items, hundreds of abyssal modules.
Why is it that jack hats at the top never get punished for the actions??
