So, what’s the current state of mining in high-sec - does it still generally suck? I see we have some new mining skills (Mining Precision and Mining Exploitation) and they added back some ores to high-sec.
I’d still really love to put a pair of strip miners on my Orca to be able to participate in the mining aspect of some of these events…
Early on in this game I gave up on mining in high and went mining Pochven for more profits. That worked out for a while, then I got omega for some time and took up PI farming in high. I told people here on the forums, PI pays best on the raw level unless you are a mega industry building something. From my brief experience here, you buy omega to PI farm raw and sell it to those mega industries in the market. It is like those afk fishing games in other mmos.
I haven’t been here long enough to know what a mining exploits would be in high, but it the words exploit and perma-ban are related in most cases. PI is the only thing I am making serious isk from in high. AFK PI farms make isk every 3 days to afford more ships to explode. The cycle of life is complete.
i don’t think high sec mining “sucks”. the (re-)inclusion of new ore anomalies has made high sec mining slightly more profitable. in a retriever, you’d probably make 25m/hr mining omber and kernite solo. if you really want high isk/hr, low sec gas is a better option (100+ m/hr).
Right - one of the new mining ship variants (thanks). I’ve got some of the new skills training. I assume the Skiff, Hulk and Mackinaw are still the “go to” mining ships in terms of raw mining power?
They definitely are, Exhumers are still the top-of-the-line mining ships.
With the recent mining changes a bunch of new ships were added in gaps, such as the new mining destroyer Pioneer as a long range middle ground option between the Venture and Barges and the improvement to the Venture that Alphas have been asking for for ages, the Consortium Issue versions of both Pioneer and Venture to have improved efficiency and yield from higher crit chance as well as the Outrider which is a hybrid miner/booster and alternative to the Porpoise with less hold, no industrial core but more yield.
The Outrider is great if you wish to bring mining boosts to a small mining fleet without losing yield for it, and also offers some more mobility to mining fleets as it’s a fast command destroyer capable of using a micro jump field generator.
