Hilmar pulled off the greatest awox/scam in EVE history, by selling CCP to Pearl Abyss for more than twice of what its worth, and pulling out his stake for $29.75mil.
If there was a fitting way for EVE to die, it was exactly this.
Founder and CEO AWOXed his own Corp (CCP), and managed to scam a buyer (Pearl Abyss) into paying more than twice its value, and ran off with almost $30mil.

Option 4: Hilmar, Reynir, and Ivar are tired of running the same operation for more than a decade and are looking to offload their privately-held company so they can focus on either (1) an early retirement fueled by the asset sale or (2) a new project or (3) anything but Eve.

You don’t get it yet ? From now on there will be only one to profit from EVE and it will be PA, all other pretenders for profit will be annihilated.

This sounds exactly like what CCP did to White Wolf Games. You don’t stand independent if you are integrating your development team into the acquiring company.

On two out of the three, that’s been a big factor for quite a while now.

The abyss was a failure? The abyss is what’s keeping me from quitting EVE. It was a long over due solo player feature that EVE was missing and now players like myself, finally get to capitalize on it.

Oh that’s almost actually funny. If you put together Hilmar’s statements on what he has been playing, he hasn’t had any time to actually work with all those games, niches, and so much more that has popped up in interviews and speeches 
Marketing speak, people just gobble it up

No, it isn’t a failure at all really. Sure, it is limited, but it was both sneak hint and experiment. When you think of what you can do in terms of variables for microtransactions with a concept such as Abyssmal space, it really is awesome. It’s the perfect landing zone for small experiments while PA maps out the whole of EVE for options.
Fyi, he committed suicide.

What it means then? Just because Hilmar sold you some marketing bulls*** doesn’t mean CCP will have control over “not their” now products. They paid serious cash for it. They want return. If EvE makes 40 mil per year they will have to wait 10 years.
