so-called useful fools
I’ll arrange an uncollatoralized gold hamster loan for you at competitive rates.
Hello Kitty skinned everything!
Another big question is how will this change the subscription model, will it still be based on characters or will it turn to accounts instead???
KUDOS +1
Expendable tools, actually The moment they let themselves get lured into not being or functioning as a stakeholder, was the moment it could only ever end this way. Classic advocacy management, as its known.
I wanna hear the answer to that from CCP during the AMA. Please ask that to them
It’s an amusing thought to see a Farmville pro attempt Eve and win… The fact that theyd pay money into trying to fly the biggest ships and the biggest guns, and then lose to 99% of real Eve players is hilarious. You may have the money for it, but the skill is a different learning route altogether. That said, i hope it doesn’t change the game too much because if it does become a P2W, sadly I’d have to find a new game
I hope I’m up for it. ( Just got off night shift.)
Changing the subscription model to account over characters will be a game changer. As we all know have alts or being in a active corp alliance can make or break a player.
I suspect this will go over as well as Disney acquiring Star Wars.
Yet CCP cannot give an answer on any such question.
They can state that this is not how things are. They can say that they do not consider such a change. They can say they cannot see any such change. All sorts of nice marketing responses are possible.
At the end of the day however, whether it is through exposure and transfer of ideas, or through targets set through financial scope or resource priorities, CCP will simply not be in a position to determine these matters.
That’s not evil, it’s just business. As mentioned earlier, the product level at CCP just executes once the deal is consolidated, the venture level moves in a similar position. There is no independance in an acquisition, no amount of marketing speak changes this. If an owner decides, that’s it.
Now CCP can provide input, for example through research and data, as well as reporting, thus aiming for influence on its owner. But the owner does its own work in parallel. Particularly in Asian business concepts.
It’ll be slow, gradual, but EVE will change. As it always has done. If push were to come to shove, PA will decide. Not CCP. I doubt that push will come to shove, because CCP can meet its set financial targets required for bonus as well as operability, as long as they can do their work.
Yes you are.
I’m sorry the shareholders did this to you, CCP employees. Maybe you’re feeling good about it and if so, I’m glad for you. Maybe you’re unconcerned since you always knew this was a temporary gig. May you land softly and in greener pastures.
Eve is a fun hobby. It has a raucus community who know the game is far from perfect, but who have enjoyed (in some respects) watching it grow through the iterative process. It really is one in a million, and the reason is, ultimately, the playerbase.
I made it nine years. I enjoyed all my time here, save for Greed is Good. That forced me to take a step back, reevaluate my commitment, and stow my wallet. While today’s move is not the end of Eve, to me it is certainly of equal magnitude in terms of its unpalatability, and greater in its immutability, thanks to PA.
Today the wallet is stowed for good. Never another penny on Eve Online.
ccp is a company name, at least something is still there
There are 2 companies.
Edit:
This mentions both are transferred.
CCP hf. , doing business as CCP Games , is an Icelandic video game developerbased in Reykjavík. Novator Partners and General Catalyst had previously collectively own a majority stake in the company, and in September 2018, CCP was acquired by South Korean video game publisher Pearl Abyss. CCP Games is best known for developing Eve Online , which was released in 2003 and has since been maintained.
Pearl Abyss has no active links.
We all know the marketing terms. Strategic sentences bs. I’m very interested in what they don’t say. However I still believe the community here may be smaller but less tolerant. Every action will be scrutinized as we have done so far. I hope the changes do not take from Eve. We will see.
Acquisition by Pearl Abyss[edit]
Pearl Abyss, the South Korean publisher of Black Desert Online , acquired CCP Games on 6 September 2018 for about US$425 million. CCP’s development studios in Reykjavik, London, and Shanghai will continue under CCP Games, while the publishing and marketing functions of CCP will be integrated with Pearl Abyss.[33]
