Mate marketing is a method not lying mate, it changes while situations change to adapt to fit. Remain profit. It is a major of study in university mate, lying can’t make marketing successful tho don’t you think?
Very optimistic numbers. 3 to 6 before we all feel it is a more realistic timeline.
Feeling the hands of change i mean.
I figured out as much I just noticed the timeline bit, and that struck me as this is roughly a 2.5 X 18 months parallel planning project. Almost textbook.
How much time is it before the AMA?
These things never work out well for the players…
Just look at Ultima Online. The first MMORPG.
It did great and had the same basic feel and rules as Eve.
Then they sold it and it went downhill fast.
I hope that doesn’t happen here.
Ultima Online was sold several times and it was ok.
It was the selling it to EA that killed it.
20K years of human history demonstrates that lying can make anything succesful in accordance to goals as long as long term consequences are considered irrelevant
Marketing is no exception It’s the applied science of influencing where idea / meme / information unit’s truth value is irrelevant in service of goals set.
Let me rephrase that for you because EVE online has already reached down hill after the latest press reports.
You should have said, "I hope it takes another 55 years before the current down hill hits rock bottom. "
Yeah, I played it from beta to now, actually.
I still have an active account, but I rarely ever play.
When they opened up Trammel, they ruined it.
Similar thing happened with Elder Scrolls Online, and the reason I quit playing. They SWORE it would ALWAYS be subscription based. Then less than a year later it went F2P along with a cash shop. Now it’s just another Korean MMO cash shop grindfest…
I understand you just floating words around trying to form a point mate, it’s alright, but marketing is about lying truely sounds funny don’t you think? It’s a major of study, I think you trying to address is that it changed during that marketing session, well Istanbul quite common tho, marketing dealing with environment and it changes constantly to adapt to avoid damage, thats what marketing do dun you think? Mate, unless it would be called agenda if it remains still
You got the malware as well?
I stand by my statement it was EA that killed ultima not Trammel and certainly not any other 1 thing.
Right mate after CCP’s taking in the buy off, the deal instantly turns it to no one has charge to direct and remain its bottom line direction but left only it’s current owner
Marketing is very much about lying, else these TV commercials for products and services wouldn’t have a couple thousand disclaimers at the end, spoken by some guy at lightspeed pace so you can’t even understand what he’s saying…
Well I’ll be damned, I actually came across a Reddit post where someone figured out a few stepping stones …
It’s likely that the galaxy pack sales and the mutaplasmids were tied directly to an attempt for acquisition.
Galaxy pack sales help all top-level metrics. Lots of new accounts being created that will be retained for a long time. CCP knows that most of these accounts are alts of existing accounts, so they can confidently point to their excellent new player retention numbers because the new accounts aren’t really new. But I doubt PA knew that. On top of that, they can point at all this new recurring revenue - these accounts were created by sales but will be sustained by MTC and plex, which have been selling like hotcakes. MTC + plex sales go up, and that means more recurring revenue down the line.
Mutaplasmids are the first step towards ship and module enchantment mechanics. They were kept relatively limited, but having them in the game shows that players are willing to spend in-game cash on them and - more importantly - creates the in-game mechanic. With the engineering work done, CCP probably used the mutaplasmid mechanics as a likely source of long-term recurring RNG-based revenue. Imagine mutaplasmids that provide bonuses to ship hulls or implants, mutaplasmids modifiers you can buy that diminish or eliminate the chance of downside when enchanting. Mutaplasmids are a flexible avenue of recurring revenue, especially if they become the new baseline.
Both were unusual for eve - plex sales happen all the time, but they did several galaxy pack sales back-to-back. Mutaplasmids seem to fly in the face of reason. Why spend hundreds of mil on mutaplasmids for a plate when you can buy faction? Why spend all that isk on MWD plasmids when you can buy deadspace? That supply is less limited and the bonuses are more reliable. The goal was to show proof of concept, and it worked. I’d say CCP has been working for this since the rorqual changes - it’s a bit tinfoil hat to speculate that the rorq/injector changes were geared towards acquisition. But it’s not totally insane.
It’s all the same.
It changed for everyone in a different way I guess.
I was into the free-play style of Felucca and Trammel changed that experience for me.
EA ruined it by doing the neons and the item based changes.
For me it was EA handing it to Mythic that killed it.
No again mate it’s a major of study, I meant every body can do lying, but none of those Works in marketing mate, it’s about how they direct audience to under stand the aspect of their product
It’s not lies it’s like the work of Magic’s, it’s more like performances but we dun say Magic’s are lies do we? We say they perform well or not
Right…
Well the worst of it was the new developers trying to make a name for themselves so they could take their resume to make bigger money and in the process they ruined it in many ways.
Mr. Tact took off to do Star Wars and totally destroyed that game within a year.
Just waiting for subscription prices to go up. Sigh
