That’s fine just as long as it goes back to subscription-only…
Alpha’s are gonna have to grow udders because that milk has to flow from somewhere, all 425 million litres of it.
Sure, human interactions are about that…in part. But there alot more going on. People won’t just sit there and blindly hand over money for a product they don’t want.
How much did a Mr. Coffee cost when it was first introduced? In today’s dollars $230. What do they cost today? Less than $20.
What in the honest f—? Why isn’t the price $230 today? If it is all social and behavioral psychology?
( the aforementioned phrases are posted with irony since they’re direct quotations of Hilmar the last time pay-to-win became a serious concern, under what are admittedly different circumstances. a bit of dark humor if you will. )
If EvE is currently not in Korea couldn’t expanding into Korea be just enough players on its own for the growth needed?
omg fresh meat
Sure, if you want the tens of thousands of bots and RMT’ers that will come along with it…
Pretty sure the Koreans know about EVE…
This is you assuming that CSM members or others haven’t been on CCPs payroll.
This is why I don’t understand how they think they can make money, are the buyers the only people on the planet that don’t know what has happened here, the millions of bears slaughtered over 15 years
I know. Some of us still remember. But you have to grant the man some respect. He has stuck to a singular agenda consistantly. Executed it in a careful manner, utilising his company’s and his customer’s psychology as a toolbox.
ZWell mate it doesn’t effect on general combat situations dun they, I mean no fleet equip abyss modules along due to its necessarily, if so it would be dramatically expensive and not practicable to implement to group fighting tho, even if abyssal items go universal, with it’s necessary price limits remain gross revenue, it won’t enter the matter of major existing combat field or farming field, I mean well if in the mood having one on board is okay but you can’t imagine how easy it could lose, like mounting an officer module to a ratting ship or mission ship it’s just not applicable to any situation but seems more likely a collector item category, you are right it seems a starter test to it and paying more to advance modules seems what they are trying to testing about, but abyss is a good concept it just providing an option to way better experience but the risk limit s it’s being applicable to any existing environment. It shows it doesn’t matter if the mudlues can be paid with better price to better quality, as long as it’s applicability is limited to its function and not interfering with major combat environment.
Seriously, dude. The same reason your printer was sold to you for half what it cost to manufacture it. Plus, it was always super cheap to make. As said, it’s the psychology, stupid. Create a solution and then use an ad company to fabricate a problem for it. Then get frightened, or lonely, or needy, or fashion forward, or etc, etc etc to buy it for a markup in the thousands of percent.
You know, like that iPhone that you bought even though the one you had was perfectly useful.
Mr Epeen:sunglasses:
They aren’t. Not in the way you mean, there’s only been a handful of players who have had a distinct old relationship without working at CCP Games.
The CSM is not on CCP’s payroll. They’re just part of CCP’s toolbox. This isn’t easy for them, because when you are in the box, you lose the external observer perspective. There’s no self-mirroring so to speak, so you form very different associations and receive very different influencing points.
As touched on by others earlier in the topic, it’s something one has to give Hilmar credit for. He identified emotional energy at CCP at a time of issues, identified a player segment which could function as a catalyst to shift the application focus of the CSM construct, to change it into an instrument in the toolbox. Only very few noticed, most of those in that last stakeholder type CSM. The people he used still haven’t figured it out, except for -afaik - one guy still running a show somewhere in EVE.
So in terms of definitions CSM is something between fellow traveller / useful idiot / signals instrument. For CCP this works very well, and it is comparatively very cheap. They don’t need CSM members on a payroll.
Let me put all problems in one reply.
Problem #1:
With no word from any of the press releases whether or not the game will have untimed-f2p after the acquisition, there is already a portion of the player base that is now in jeopardy. This is because from what we know about Pearl Abyss, all their games are single-timed-F2P. Basically the current prediction in my opinion, Pearl Abyss will remove alpha from the game. There is no word from any of the game developers to suggest otherwise.
Problem #2: There is a high chance that Pearl Abyss could remove plex from the game. The reason being that directly buying a product from a store can be more profitable then plex. Why so? Not all plex that is bought is sold successfully in the game. Also, the ability to sell and by plex via ISK invokes an ideology in the gaming community that one does not have to pay PA to get the plex. (Although some else did buy the plex to sell on the market.) Another reason why direct selling without the use of plex is more profitable is because the profit on some items in the store can directly be changed. This is not possible with PLEX because changing the price of PLEX will change the way people spend PLEX in the store, since all items in the store are currently sold via PLEX. For a money hungry company like Pearl Abyss, IMO the removal of PLEX is actually possible.
Problem #3: The reputation of Pearl Abyss is very well known. They do not care about the feelings of the community of their games. They make updates that they promised to their community that they will not do. They try to silence people on their forums, by banning them if something is said against them. It is also known, that they do not help people that well if they have any problems with the game. To top of the list, it is known that their forum mods are very mean to anyone who suggests PA to implement untime-limited F2P in any one of their games.
Problem #4: There are countless number of known incidents and reports where it has been stated that Pearl Abyss installs unremovable malware when installing any of their games. This malware is said by PA to be used as an anti-bot and anti-hack measure. However this malware is said to copy all the data on the SD ram, and all programs and files accessed from the past 30 days every time the game is used or the computer is turned on. All this data is then uploaded to the servers that belong to Pearl Abyss, according to the report. This problem causes a privacy issue. Also the EU and many non EU based countries in Europe are going to impose a law that prohibits any installation of such programs that install such malware on to any computer in these countries. If this is the case, then Pearl Abyss has lost almost the entirety of the European player base, which is an extremely big huge chunk of the EVE player base.
Very well wrote up. I suggest that answers to these questions should be sought and the questions levelled at CCP during their ask me anything later today.
I don’t think you grasp the economics here. There’s (amazingly) one Reddit thread where things are worked out between people in constructive analysis while providing good insights better than I could summarise here. Take note of the parts on Packs, Plex and Alpha changes.
Honestly, Alpha’s are in no danger whatsoever. On the contrary, they will become the core of the changing EVE. In truth, here is a part of CCP’s experience base PA really needs. The experience of subscription + alpha + omega + mt. This is what they want.
Everything else in terms of potential risks, spot on.
I think the bot teleportation into Yulai was CCP’s last hurrah. Sort of a “Hey guys, I know we let bots run rampant for the past 15 years, but here’s a couple of freebies we teleported into Yulai for you to kill. We good now? Great! Now, please stick around even though we are about to shove a nine iron up your ass in a couple of weeks with an unannounced buyout…”
PA’s anti-bot doesen’t even function in the game, bots are just a scapegoat for the malware.
