Devblog: Invasion Tournament Series

That’s the whole point…not to give anyone an advantage and make it a level playing field.

If you can’t play like that, don’t join.

We used to have a very similar format at EveNT. But there your wingmans name was pulled out of a hat, the ships were pre chosen for you just as here, and after each round some ships were removed so that you had to go out of your comfort zone into a ship you might never have flown.

Guess what? It was fun for everyone, even for players who never pvp’d, it was a good laugh.

So yeah, it’s a good FAIR format.

Just don’t forget to grab ammo before undocking  )

Not a single problem and sorry for not addressing your questions earlier. We won’t be allowing people to plug in their own peripherals.

There are a few more things we need to finalize on our end but we should be able to share with you early next week what PC specs and peripherals we will be having for the year

Isn’t there a way to migrate the settings? I don’t see how everyone playing on default setting adds to the gameplay. Can you explain, please.

a large part of players use hotkeys and custom overviewsettings when playing.

CCP is not allowing hotkeys to be asigned / overviews to be edited in this tournament, even though reseting the client prior to each match would take literally 30ish seconds.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the tournament.

Your concerns about the inability to adjust hotkeys and the default overview are valid and we can see how that can be detrimental to the tournament series. On one hand, we don’t want players to feel like they are unable to play at their full potential due to strict tournament rules. On the other hand, we do have time constraints that force us to sometimes make less than the ideal decision in order to ensure we can execute tournaments in the same style at all events.

When working on the rules we need to be extra careful and account for any delays or technical problems that can happen. If there is one thing I have learned from the live events is that even with a solid preparation that we have there will be things we could not have predicted. Having time to solve them without drastically impacting the overall flow of the event is critical and needs to be included in our planning.

After reviewing the tournament plans and time at our disposal, I believe we can mitigate the situation a little bit:

  • First, we are going to add an additional 5 minutes at the beginning of each match/series for players to alter their hotkeys. Keep in mind that nobody will be allowed to plug in any device to the tournament equipment, so this must be done manually.
  • Second, we are going to preload all machines with one of the popular overviews that are used for PvP in EVE Online. We feel that this will be a good compromise to have that does not further increase the time allocation needed for each match.

Rules have been already updated to reflect that.

Please keep the feedback coming and never hesitate to reach out to us with questions. EVEsterdam is only a few weeks away and I am looking forward to meeting everyone who swings by that weekend!

It seems that whining to get your own way wins again, sorry but it should have been left as it was thereby giving nobody an advantage.

Perhaps have some PCs to swap in/out if settings get funny.

That certainly seems more than fair, cheers.

Just swinging by to let everyone know that we are going to be using Sarashawa-Overview pack for all Invasion Tournament Series events. Take a look at the screenshots attached and hit me up if you have any questions!

Surely this means you’re going to make this the new default pack in Eve. Right? Please??

I found the rule sheet where is the ship list?

@CCP_Dopamine I had a question about the rules. Sent an in-game mail with contents. Please reply at your leisure.

The presentation of the last tourney was boring, ramshackle. The presenters were having to target ships to get their status’, and after the fight had started! Please use the format which served the AT competitions so well. Or, and here’s a thought - do better.

@CCP_Dopamine I had a great time at the tournament at EVE North  placed 3rd! I have a small piece of feedback: please allow the changing of ammo and pre-heating of modules after landing in the arena (before the countdown). This has been allowed in every other tournament that I have participated in.

Inconsistency: when I mentioned this rule to a few other participants, they were unaware of it… but I heard some of the staff explicitly telling pilots not to reload or overheat, which means that it was not being enforced by all staff, leading to an inconsistent experience for the pilots.

RNG: being unable to reload before the countdown means that for some weapon-types, like missiles, you have to make your best guess before leaving the station, and if you guess wrong, you have to waste match-time reloading. This feels like an unnecessary element of randomness that should not be part of deciding a match.

I’m curious as to why this was even considered as a rule at all? Why restrict reloading and heating before the countdown? What benefit does it add to the competition? It certainly adds one more thing for the staff to remember…

@CCP_Dopamine

In the “Find your wingman” Thread at [LFM] Invasion Tournament Series - EVE Berlin it says “This competition will feature a 16 teams bracket,”

In the ruleset at https://web.ccpgamescdn.com/aws/community/EVEBerlinTournamentRules.pdf it says “32 teams, single-elimination tournament”.

Which one is it?

If one player signed up as a team does the teammate also have to fill out the sign up form?

I really dont know if its possible to be on line during the event. as I am not there at teh event that is not in Tampa Florida, is it a possible chance?
